(1 Customer Review)
Having made his mark as part of the Wu-Tang affiliated group Sunz of Man, Hell Razah branches out with his own solo release RENAISSANCE CHILD. With a tight underground flow and a barrage of ghetto-life imagery informed by Gnostic philosophy, Hell Razah's sound is evocative of the Wu in its heyday ("I play your skeleton bones like it's a xylophone/For that money my mummy's strapped with a lotta chrome"). RENAISSANCE CHILD succeeds in part due to its impressive guest list (including hi-rollers Talib Kweli, MF Doom, Tragedy Khadafi, R.A. the Rugged Man, Timbo King, and Ras Kass), rugged production team (MF Doom, 4th Disciple, Bronze Nazareth, among others), and the imaginative lyricism of Hell Razah himself.
Boasting nothing but power-packed rhymes, Razah easily holds his own alongside heavyweight features such as Tragedy, Khadafi, Timbo King, R.A. Rugged Man, Talib Kweli, Viktor Vaughn, Bronze Nazareth, Killah Priest, Ras Kass, and The Maccabeez. The CD is a maningful and intelligent record which is a breath of fresh air in today's stale era of so-called hip-hop. This limited edition set includes a bonus DVD. Renaissance Child album
$8.69 This is an enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
PeteStrumentals follows Jay Dee's Welcome 2 Detroit as the second offering in BBE's producer spotlight "Beat Generation" series. If you approach Pete Rock's joint as a song-oriented pop album, you may feel disappointed. Only two tracks ("Cake" and "Nothin' Lesser - Jamie's Mix") feature MCs and the repetitive, consistently mid-tempo beats get somewhat monotonous by the end of most tracks. If you approach the album as a radical work of sonic architecture, you may also feel disappointed, since Rock's relatively old-school sensibility isn't likely to make you hear music in a completely new way. ...

Renaissance Child music CDs
$12.89 Though Wu-Tang member Inspectah Deck has only released a few albums in his ten years as a solo artist (his debut, Uncontrolled Substance, came out in 1999, though it was said to have been finished as early as 1995), what he has put out -- not to mention his various excellent guest appearances and work on Wu-Tang Forever -- has been consistently good, a trend that follows on 2006's The Resident Patient, a mixtape that plays more like an official full-length. Though he only gets a little help from his Wu compatriots (Masta Killa is featured on the opener, "Sound of the Slums," and U-God has a verse on ...

| | Tams Hey Girl Dont Bother Me CD (1998) England; Anthology
Renaissance Child music CDs
$8.79 This budget priced collection of 22 songs by Atlanta, Georgia's '60s pop and soul group the Tams includes "Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy," "It's All Right (You're Just In Love)," and "Got To Get Used To A Broken Heart."
The Tams, led by the gravel-tinged voice of Joseph Pope, were one of the most consistent of 1960s pop-soul groups, and have been long overdue for a critical reappraisal. Beginning with "Untie Me" (written by Joe South) in 1962, the Tams hit the charts at intervals with "What Kind of Fool (Do You Think I Am)" in 1963, "Hey Girl Don't Bother Me" in 1964, and the sublime "Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy" in 1968. This fine collection has all of those hits plus solid tracks ...
| | Henry Marshall Mantras 4: Inner Peace CD (2002)
Renaissance Child songs
$11.99 Henry Marshall and his group of singers present these four lesser-known Sanskrit chants as unpretentious, hymn-like songs, with gentle piano and guitar accompaniment. Like Robert Gass, Marshall arranges Hindu mantras in a friendly, comfortable style more akin to a Protestant guitar mass than to a traditional kirtan. This is an unobtrusive way to introduce Westerners to the joy of chant. Like all Marshall albums, a supplementary booklet details the lyrics and purpose of each mantra.

| | Floetry Floacism CD (2003) Bonus DVD
Renaissance Child album
$15.35 Recorded live at The House Of Blues, New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 3, 2003.
On the intro to "Sunshine," Floetry's "floacist" Natalie Stewart introduces herself and songstress Marsha Ambrosius, greeting the crowd with the refreshing angle, "It's nice to finally meet you." She continues with the declaration, "Every single song on our album was written by ourselves; it's our lives, it's our feelings, our emotions, it's our truth." This phrase sums up the feel of Floetry--word-driven, positive, and wonderfully ...
| | Baby Bash Tha Smokin' Nephew Chopped & Screwed Version CD (2003) Chop
Renaissance Child CD music
$6.55 Principally recorded at The Clinic, Digital Services, Dope House Recording, Houston, Texas; R&D Studios, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Baby Bash hails from Houston, Texas, but he'll never be confused with the horror-movie violence of the local Geto Boys or the syrup-swiggers of the Screwed Up Click; Baby Bash is into his own thing. Signed to a major on the strength of the ultra-catchy, smooth-R&B-infused hit "Suga Suga," THA SMOKIN' NEPHEW, the spry rapper displays a variety of skills beyond the scope of the single.
While success has blown in overnight, Baby Bash has plied his trade for nearly a decade, and he was a member of the supergroup Latino Velvet in the late 1990s with Kid Frost and Jay Tee of N2DEEP. Bash's strongest point is his versatility-he's as comfortable with a ...
