“One of Chicago’s hottest rising talents. While the idea of a Chicago alt-country outfit blending folkie chords with experimental soundscapes isn’t exactly a new one, Riviera carves out its own niche by adding a healthy dose of pithy lyrics worthy of Pavement’s Stephen Malkmus.” – Chicago Tribune’s Metromix “Riviera never lets its influences lead the dance, instead dizzying them with literate doses of absurdist humor and liberal doses of the hidden hooch in that hollow bible.” – All Music Guide “Richly textured melodies, creative uses of feedback and electronic washes and the exploitation of all the colors in their sonic palette to create some memorable and moody rock and roll.” – The Rock and Roll Report “Riviera is able to sound sincere in its wholesale borrowing of classic rock elements. I imagine it’s much easier to divine in a live setting, but Riviera never seems to labor during their songs. They trigger a certain satisfying déjà vu but through it all there’s an awareness that they’re operating on a platform well trampled by many bands, a certain self-effacing approach that keeps the focus squarely on the songs and not on the band’s influences.” – Stylus “Their collective wit is literate and wry, backed by rock swagger and a willingness to let a tinge of rock noise creep in occasionally.” – Miles of Music“Chicago-based Riviera assumes the burden of channeling crates and crates full of everyone's favorite albums… While labels such alt-country or Americana certainly fit Riviera's sound, At The End of the American Century also borrows from 70’s classic FM rock and the most accessible of contemporary indie rock, covering multiple aesthetic touch points without the self-conscious dress code of hipster hang-ups...” – Blue Mag“Spot on for those who dig the sad bastard music that’s not so sad sounding. It actually makes for a great soundtrack for an indie flick that doesn’t exist yet.” – Punk Planet# # # # # # # # # # # # Riviera’s musical palette contains shades of artists you already love (Neil Young, Rolling Stones, George Harrison) blended together with colors unique to each of the band’s three singer-songwriters.On Capital, the second full-length album by Riviera on Glorious Noise Records, the band stretches their sounds past the distorted Americana that pervaded their debut, At the End of the American Century… While that album had a palpable sense of paranoia throughout, Capital is the sound of a band resigned to live in troubled world: “There’s a change coming on, and I don’t think I know what it means” (“White Limousine”). And it’s not going to get better anytime soon: “Evolution’s slower than a snail” (“Snails).Musically, Capital is deceptively more upbeat than its predecessor. “Snails” and “Giving Blood,” in particular, are rockers that will get even the most jaded hipster on their feet. Of course, there’s no shortage of the poignant mid-tempo heartbreakers that Riviera is known for (“Here’s to Us,” “Golden Lies”), and there’s even a healthy dose of blue-eyed soul (“White Limousine”).Riviera continues to move forward and expand beyond their roots while acknowledging and graciously tipping their hats to their influences. Capital is the album to help us navigate through the increasing cynicism and indifference of the times.# # # # # # # # # # # # GLORIOUS NOISE RECORDS is the indie label offshoot of the online music community, Glorious Noise. Capital album
$12.29 BY A THREAD is Gov't Mule's first studio album since HIGH & MIGHTY was issued in 2006. Since that time, bassist Andy Hess has been replaced by Jorgen Carlsson, though Hess appears on two tracks at the end of the album. Carlsson's playing style is much more aggressive than Hess', and is therefore closer - in spirit anyway - to Gov't Mule's original bassist, the late Allen Woody, though he possesses an adventurous sense of time and is harmonically more colorful than either Woody or Hess. Carlsson and drummer Matt Abst are a solid match, since Abst is a drummer used to shifting time signatures and allowing the unexpected in while still driving a band. The band's keyboardist and rhythm guitarist, ...

| | Cherry Monroe CD (2005)
Capital songs
$15.19 Cherry Monroe has always existed. But Matt Toka just had to find it. He knew it was there. An outlet for his darker side. A way to exorcise the metaphors of lost love, and to find it again. But he had to search. The catharsis came in the middle of a bleak winter as winds cut across the Penn-Ohio line. With roots in Pittsburgh, Youngstown, Columbus and Cleveland, an unexpected group gathered in from former mill towns to see if something might still be burning. During an all-night jam session, Matt tuned in. The others turned on. And together they proceeded to drop out and spend the next two days huddled around a singular mic, heating up and melting away Matt's ruminations on life and love to the bare bones. With nothing but acoustic guitars and bongos, Matt, guitarist Ryan Harris, drummer Jason Levis, bassist Dave Saltzman, and guitarist Frankie Bennett vented and manipulated. Constructed and destroyed. What emerged would be the raw materials and demos for Cherry Monroe's debut album: Ten songs hammered out and fused together around the core element of burning love.Forging their own sound and style, Cherry Monroe takes a couple Les Pauls through some Marshall stacks to generate a loaded set of distinct songs: ...

| | Soul Majestic CD (2003)
Capital CD music
$18.95 Soul Majestic's self-titled debut album is a well rounded roots album featuring all original songs. Recorded in 2002 this album features songs rarely heard in recent live performances. Guest appearances by Rocker T and Rocky Bailey. They are said to be one of North America's most powerful and promising reggae acts in years. The diversity in their range of fans demonstrates their ability to move the most hard-core reggae enthusiasts as well as a wider, more universal audience, and keep them dancing from start to finish. Influenced by old school studio one style, conscious roots, dub, and cultural dance hall, the band takes what they have learned from their reggae heroes and funnels it into a unique sound all their own. Soul Majestic achieves this authenticity with their talented combination of players featuring bass and drums, keyboard/organ, lead and rhythm guitar, three horns, percussion, melodica, and Nyahbingi drums. With charismatic vocalist Eric-I as the band's lead singer and primary songwriter, the band keeps things fresh by featuring Soul Majestic's other vocal talents as well. They incorporate a strong female presence with Oriana Sanders on leads for a handful of tunes, and a dancehall edge with percussionist Brian Jarvis stepping up as DJ. Lush harmonies from the band's two soul sisters, tight rhythm section, and energetic drum and bass ...

Capital music CDs
$10.15 The Projects. The name tells the story. Started as a few friends jamming together as a project, songs started to appear out of nowhere. These songs decided they wanted to be heard by people so a band was formed to accommodate the songs. First the songs were recorded in Dae Dor studios, owned by Danny and Tony, members of The Projects. Danny, Tony, Nick and Blake created their Debut EP in the early part of 2005. In finishing the cd, a realization occurred. Since Danny played drums and guitar, and there were points ...
