Very Best of Saxon album for sale Product Description
Very Best of Saxon album for sale by Saxon was released Feb 27, 2007 on the MSI Music Distribution label. The Very Best of Saxon? Well, not quite. But for heavy metal and hard rock fans hoping to get an expansive look at the glorious first-third and disastrous second-third of Saxon's career (while doing without the often redeeming last third) could do a lot worse than this three-disc set titled, unimaginatively enough, The Very Best of Saxon. To start with, the packaging is succinct but satisfying -- not your obvious thrown-together job of Saxon collections past -- and includes a similarly basic but informative essay by respected New Wave of British Heavy Metal writer, eyewitness, and survivor Mick Wall. Very Best of Saxon CD music contains a single disc with 54 songs. ...See Full Description

LONG LIVE SAXON!! I have been waiting for a set like this to come out for a long time. This is an awesome tribute to the greatest heavy metal band to emerge from the NWOBHM. By Steve (Manchester, CT)
great compilation this is one of the best saxon comps out there now. you get all the great stuff from the early 80s and the decent stuff from the mid to late 80s. By saxonman (hicksville new york)
At last... After 20 years, they finally (almost) get it right. One of the very best of the NWOBHM bands, and the only truly good one not to make a big name for themselves on these shores, Saxon has found themselves poorly represented stateside. By Anglophile (New York, NY)
All the best of their original sound. In the 10 years from '79-'89, Saxon belted out classic 80's metal riffs and driving drums with the ever original vocals of Biff Byford. By J.A. (Fort Mill, SC)

Loudness Thunder in the East CD (1985) Top Seller
Very Best of Saxon album for sale Loudness was a Japanese hard rock quartet that had numerous hit albums in the 80's and early 90's. Thunder In The East reached number 74 on the Billboard charts in 1985. Wounded Bird. 2003.
With 1985's Thunder in the East, Loudness were faced with the daunting challenge of conquering heavy metal fans outside their homeland of Japan for the first time. Knowing that their early sound might prove a tad too heavy and complex for American audiences, the foursome rose to the occasion by dispensing their most melodic compositions ever. Yet, except for a few obvious examples, like "We Could Be Together," first single "Crazy Nights," and the power ballad "Never Change Your Mind," the band doesn't seem at all self-conscious about this transition. A few all-out headbangers like "Get Away" and "Clockwork Toy" are hammered out for good measure, but it's excellent tracks like "Heavy Chains," "The Lines Are Down," and "No Way Out" which obtain the best results by bridging the gap between both extremes and providing the best foundations for Akira Takasaki's incendiary guitar solos. In fact, were it not for singer Minoru Niihara's poor English-speaking skills (which quite understandably result in some amusing lyrical transgressions) little here belies the band's unique origins, and for that they should be applauded. Oh, and the impossibly long guitar riff of "Run for Your Life" has to be a world record. Backed by a ruthless marketing campaign concocted by record label Atco, Thunder in the East would actually do quite well in America. But Loudness' novelty status would soon wear off, and they would never again experience such success in America, despite some fine efforts in the following ...

Rough Cutt Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You! CD (2005) Top Seller
Very Best of Saxon CD music In the midst of the madness that was the hair metal explosion of the '80s, Rough Cutt became one of those bands that time gently buried underneath the weight of music's evolution. Washing ashore in 2005 thanks to Wounded Bird, the first two Rough Cutt records have been reissued and remastered on one disc. Essentially the group's entire recorded works, Rough Cutt/Rough Cutt Wants You! presents the band in all of its unapologetic bombast and excess, complete with pyrotechnics. Fierce rockers with blazing guitar solos are shuffled in between midtempo songs and the gratuitous eerie power ballad for the duration of the 20 songs. The music really isn't anything groundbreaking or earth shattering, and after a while can become exhausting to listen to if you're not in the proper mindset to rock out. But for those who like their hair metal with a lot of polish (but not too much; there's still a bit of grit in the glam and a bit of sand in the eye makeup) and are searching for gems that may have been overlooked, this will certainly do the trick. ~ Rob Theakston
2 LPs on 1 CD: ROUGH CUTT/ROUGH CUTT WANTS YOU.
Personnel: David Alford (vocals, drums); Paul Shortino (vocals); Amir Derakh (guitar, synthesizer); Chris Hager (guitar).

Michael Schenker Group / Michael Schenker In the Midst of Beauty CD (2008)
Very Best of Saxon songs Michael Schenker/Michael Schenker Group: Gary Barden (vocals); Don Airy (keyboards); Neil Murray (bass guitar); Simon Phillips (drums).
Few rock guitarists are as talented Michael Schenker, yet he hasn't enjoyed the mainstream success he richly deserves. Maddening personal and business problems have weighed him down for most of his career. He joined Scorpions as a teenager before serving a turbulent stint in UFO that still managed to produce a handful of classic '70s hard rock albums -- all of which should have been big hits. The Michael Schenker Group and then the McAuley Schenker Group/MSG with vocalist Robin McAuley became slicker-sounding solo vehicles for the German axe slinger, but widespread fame remained just out of reach. A few reunions with UFO were short-lived. In 2008, Schenker and original Michael Schenker Group vocalist Gary Barden revived the band and released In the Midst of Beauty under the moniker MSG Schenker-Barden. They are joined on the album by three highly respected veterans: keyboardist Don Airey (Rainbow, Deep Purple), bass guitarist Neil Murray (Whitesnake), and drummer Simon Phillips (Toto). Make no mistake, they are literally supporting players and this is Schenker and Barden's show. In the Midst of Beauty is a no-frills hard rock album made by musicians who helped define and refine the genre. The in-your-face production showcases Schenker's jaw-dropping guitar work and Barden's throaty, lived-in voice. Schenker is revered by guitar fanatics for his rich tone and fast, fluidly precise attack, and on In the Midst of Beauty the tone is grittier and a little more distorted than his earlier work. This gives the songs a more modern edge. "City Lights" and "I Want You" are straight-up rockers. The fast and furious "Competition" rumbles with punk-like energy. "The Cross of Crosses" thunders along as Barden's ambitious lyrics bubble with religious imagery. "Na Na" relies on a midtempo groove and a catchy chorus. "Summerdays" is the most complex and nuanced song on the album as Schenker weaves sweet acoustic lines with his signature electric style. The arrangement of "Ride on My Way" changes throughout while showing flashes of pop that hint at Schenker's radio-aimed '80s and early-'90s efforts. In the Midst of Beauty isn't revolutionary, but it does enjoyably spotlight the incredible talents of old pros who still have fire in their bellies. ~ Bret Adams
Michael Schenker is truly a legend. From helping form the Scorpions to his stint with UFO, his guitar prowess has been electrifying from the beginning. This brand new recording perfectly captures the MSG aesthetic and mystique, which makes sense as 4/5ths of the original MSG are back in the fold! Singer Gary Barden, drummer Simon Phillips and keyboardist Don Airey join Schenker and bassist Neil Murray for one of their best (and most highly anticipated) recordings and a return to classic MSG form. Pushing the boundaries of hard rock, heavy metal and blues rock to the limits which his old fans love and which will impress a wide range of new fans.
Personnel: Michael Schenker (guitar); Don Airey (keyboards).
Audio Mixers: Siggi Schwarz; Romi Schickle.

Eagle Has Landed III CDs (2006)
Very Best of Saxon CD music It was on the concert stage (or more precisely, their local bar's stage) that the majority of New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands caused an initial buzz in their native land. And one of the genre's most popular live acts at the time was Saxon. Thus far, the group has issued countless live sets over the years, and 2006 saw the latest entry in their ongoing The Eagle Has Landed series. Recorded during various Europe dates circa 2004 and 2005, the double-disc Eagle Has Landed, Vol. 3 contains both blasts from the past and new tracks (disc one focusing on their early days through 1984, while the majority of disc two focuses on 1991 through 2004). Saxon 2006 only sees two original bandmembers still in attendance -- singer Biff Byford and guitarist Paul Quinn -- but Saxon's signature, anthemic metal sound remains intact. With Saxon's '80s era considered by most fans to be their strongest, the first disc is expectedly the better of the two, as it includes "Never Surrender," "And the Bands Played On," "Warrior" (which sounds like Kill 'Em All-era Metallica), and "Crusader." As evidenced by the second disc, Saxon's '90s-era material was certainly an improvement over the group's overly commercial material of the mid-to-late '80s ("Lionheart," "Beyond the Grave," etc.) but wasn't exactly as fist-pumping/headbanging-inducing as, say, "Wheels of Steel." ~ Greg Prato
Saxon’s 1979 debut already hinted that a rough diamond was about to emerge. Their second recording, Wheels Of Steel, tuned into a mega seller, as Saxon went on to tour all over the world. The successor, Strong Arm Of The Law, and especially their double platinum release Denim And Leather (1981) reinforced Saxon’s reputation. Tours of America, an appearance at the Monsters Of Rock festival in Castle Donington, and the live album The Eagle Has Landed (1982) (according to Melody Maker “one of the best live recordings of the decade”) followed. Power And Glory (1983) was another classic that caused a stir, particularly in the States. Crusader (1984), oriented towards the US radio charts, was greeted by the odd critical voice that complained about Saxon’s supposed mainstream ambitions.
