Dizzy songs
$10.39 Island's 2005 compilation The Very Best of the Island Years is a near-perfect single-disc overview of Robert Palmer's stint at Island Records, which ran from 1974's Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley to 1985's Riptide. This is regarded by fans and critics alike as his peak creative period, and ...
| | Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits CD (2004) Remastered
Dizzy album
$10.49 You know that tattered old Carly Simon best-of album that's been sitting in your older sister's record collection for decades? It's been firmly supplanted. While the two-disc ANTHOLOGY on Rhino is the most comprehensive Simon collection, for a single-disc retrospective, you can't do better than this. Obviously, the expected staples are all present and accounted for, from the breathlessly innocent "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" to the sassy, notoriously inscrutable "You're So Vain." Expanding on the aforementioned 1975 compilation, though, REFLECTIONS ...

| | Chad Mitchell In Concert-Everybody's Listening CD (2005)
Dizzy album
$9.75 This is one of those concert albums that isn't. The Chad Mitchell Trio departed Colpix for Kapp in 1961, leaving Colpix with just four outtakes by the group in the can from its 1960 debut album, The Chad Mitchell Trio Arrives. Cherry-picking two tracks ("I Do Adore Her" and "Sally Ann") from that album and adding in the four unreleased songs, the label then dubbed in audience noise to make a faux live set. This still didn't add up to an album, so six songs from a forgettable quartet known as the Gatemen were grafted on, again with fake crowd noise. The CMT do shine on the Irving Burgie chestnut "I Do Adore Her," but the exact same recording had already been on Arrives (minus the badly dubbed crowd effects), and while the version here of "Vaya con Dios" is also pretty good, these two performances hardly make up for the album's false pretense. ~ Steve Leggett
