Fearless is a good adjective for German chanteuse Nina Hagen, whose bizarre, chirpy vocal style, penchant for colorful costumes, and devotion to both avant-garde sonics and catchy pop predated Bjork by more than a decade. This 1983 album was an even stranger venture for her than usual, in that she teamed up with disco master-producer Giorgio Moroder, perhaps in search of a hit, or just new juxtapositions for her angular approach to singing.
The disco-funk backing bubbles along agreeably, while Hagen sings about flying saucers, universal love, and the dangers of drugs. Stand-out tracks include "What it Is," a proto-rap extolling the virtues of healthy living, and "Springtime In Paris," whose punky urgency sounds the most like vintage Hagen.

Nina Hagen Fearless Songs Fearless Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) Finally! This has always been a great album and finally it is in CD format!! Submitted by mike (Orlando, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
My Pink Garage Is Such A Hot Location.... This is Nina's 2nd English language CD and contains her biggest international hit to date New York, New York.
Why it has remained unreleased on cd for over 20 years is quite a mystery. This completes the catalog, save the German language version of Fearless called Angstlos.
This release falls right in the middle of what I consider her creative peak overall. Starting with the dark, envelope pushing "Nunsexmonkrock" beforehand, and the more commercial and accessible In Ekstasy afterwards.
This has elements of both, but each album sounds distinctly different. Fearless overall falls into a pop-rock type catergory, even though it's produced by the deft hand of disco king Giorgio Moroder. Where Nina is concerned catergories are pretty much useless. There's nothing like this before, during, or after it's release.
It's Nina, and you know what that means.
It takes each song on a stylistic ride all over the place. Even doing a Red Hot Chili Peppers number called What It Is. (Which was the first place I ever heard of them)
Herein many memorable lines, sounds, and voices abound. This is a very infectious cd once it's given a few spins. Namechecking everything from dolphins, Hitler, Dali, and our brothers from "out of space".
For an experienced Nina fan I have no problem recommending it. For the casual fan it's as good a place as any, but not necessarily representative of her other work per se. But what is?
As for the packaging, it's pretty pedestrian. No bonus tracks (the German versions would have been appreciated). The booklet opens to show the original liner notes from the album sleeve. Quite shrunken and hard to read. Still it's nice to have this in CD form finally. Grab it before it goes out of print and costs you 60 bucks like the rest of them! | | Good, The Bad & The Queen Good, The Bad & The Queen CD (2007)
Fearless CD music
$9.89 Expectations run supremely high for a group like The Good, The Bad & The Queen. In addition to being Damon Albarn's first project since the Gorillaz, the GB&Q are also quite the super group, with Clash bassist Paul Simonon, Verve guitarist Simon Tong, and legendary drummer Tony Allen--the man who put the beat in Afrobeat--rounding out the line-up. Adding to this stellar ...
| | Killing Floor CD (1995) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Fearless music CDs
$16.65 The sheer toughness -- and overall derivative -- nature of Killing Floor's debut album, issued six months after Led Zeppelin's debut in 1969 on the Spark label, is a wondrous contrast to the overly slick treatment American blues were given by British artists. All of these tunes, with the exception ...
| | Danny Kirwan Second Chapter CD (1975) With Book; Limited Edition; Digipak
Fearless songs
$19.79 The first solo album from Fleetwood Mac singer/songwriter Daniel David Kirwan has the future producer for Human League and Buzzcocks, Martin Rushent, utilizing those skills here, as well as engineering. The sound is crystal clear, and a feather in the cap for Rushent as well as Kirwan. It starts off with an uncharacteristic "Ram Jam City," which has more Lindsey Buckingham sounds ...

| | Richard Youngs River Through Howling Sky CD (2004)
Fearless music CDs
$13.05 Glaswegian Richard Youngs has been on a jag the past few years, creating a new kind of singer/songwriter music that draws on -- instead of relying on -- tight, close-ended compositions about specific themes, or even songwriting tropes at all. Evidenced by Making Paper and May, Youngs broke down to their barest essentials the tools of the songwriters' trade to just stark acoustic guitar and pianos, and created vast landscapes where form was pliable and, in some cases, nearly non-existent, and content was free to roam the inner vista of a particular composition. On 2003's brilliant Airs of the Ear, Youngs brought the electric guitar into the mix, as well as numerous found sounds and effects, as a way of creating and releasing tensions inside his songscapes, and as a device for setting them with near visual landmarks as they meandered and crawled their way through ...

| | Dave Gross Take The Gamble CD (2007)
Fearless album
$13.69 This good-natured and spirited set by blues guitarist/singer Dave Gross mostly focuses on the jump blues style of the 1940s, even though the majority of the selections are his originals. Gross has a versatile style that ranges from Charlie Christian to early rock & roll, and his group sometimes ventures into 1960s R&B/soul ballads, though usually not for long. There are some fine solos along the way from saxophonist Doug James, cornetist Al Basile, and Dennis Gruenling on harmonica. The personnel changes from track to track, with Duke Robillard guesting on guitar during three numbers. The swinging instrumental "Swingin' on All Six" and a romping "After You've Gone" are high points, although every selection is enjoyable and Gross' good-humored vocals are fun. Take the Gamble will appeal to several large and overlapping audiences; recommended. ~ Scott Yanow
