John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. Celine Dion's Au Coeur Du Stade is her third French-language live import album, and it was released at the height of her "titanic" superstardom. Previous to this album, she had enjoyed unparalleled success with her theme from Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On" (which is included as the album's closer), as well as with her blockbuster albums Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love and their respective hit singles. However, only two English-language songs appear on this album, the aforementioned "My Heart Will Go On" and "Let's Talk About Love" -- the rest of the album, including the live banter, is all in French. Judging from the audience reactions, "Je Sais Pas" and "Ziggy" must have been very well-known songs. ACALANTO is a CD whose initial idea was conceived during the arrival of my children, between 2001 and 2003. Following this theme, I composed ten songs that in the beginning were supposed to be lullabies. However, the project had its own whims and pursued another direction. From singing tunes, it turned to be instrumental songs, and from lullabies, it turned into family themes, inspired in the parenthood but not restricted to the infant audience. After recording the themes I realized that they had some sort of classical flavor in it. However, while composing them, I had no other intention besides to musically express the feelings of family bounds, specially the ones between parents and their children. I believe that the composer ought to allow the creative flow to come through freely, without the intervention of pre-established ideas. In this way, I prefer to be a music lover than a music critic, especially for the songs that have honored me with their manifestation. The natural queue of these ten compositions, presented here in the same order that they were composed, tells a musical story that goes to different sound landscapes, visiting distant and exotic places, and slowly turning more tranquil and introspective until reaching the tenth theme, so smooth and delicate as a truly lullaby.A few ...
