Music has probably been made that is harder than that found on Country Medical Examiners' sophomore release, OLIDOUS OPERETTAS, but as Dr. Morton Fairbank's guitar grinds, Dr. Jack Putnam's drums pummel, and Dr. Guy Radcliffe's bass slugs away, one must surely place the trio near the peak of the loud/heavy mountain. Without a doubt, though, no band has ever composed lyrics as disgusting--and bracing--as those found in these perverted, medically descriptive odes to mutilation. For that alone, they deserve kudos. Yikes.

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.48) - "[A] phenomenally entertaining piece of work, bulging with Herculean riffs, ultra-sick belches and growls and, most importantly, razor-sharp song writing." County Medical Examiners Olidous Operettas Songs Olidous Operettas Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) WOW Well, I didn't quite know what to expect, but, in the end, the band sounds like a tribute to Carcass, and their signature style of gore-grind (which they are) But the fact that 2 of the 3 memebers are middle aged men, and the bassist is in his 60's, plus the fact all 3 of them are doctors, and it is the first cd to be "scratch-and-sniff." (IT SMELLS LIKE A CORPSE!!) For these reasons this cd is absolutely worth checking out, and yes, it smells rancid, especially it's been working up heat, spinning in your cd player all day! | | Dozer Beyond Colossal CD (2008)
Olidous Operettas
$11.29 One has to admire the members of Dozer for having the balls to name their fifth album Beyond Colossal, thereby raising fan expectations to improbable heights; but then, Sweden's longest-running stoner rock band (arguably) haven't paid much mind to external forces throughout their career -- or else they'd have switched to death metal or pop music by now. No, Dozer remain committed to their primary musical course, and like other stoner rock stalwarts such as Fu Manchu or Clutch (whose Neil Fallon lends guest vocals on a couple of these tracks), their enduring relevance resides in both maintaining the broad strokes and manipulating the minute idiosyncrasies ...
| | Sepultura A-Lex CD (2009)
Olidous Operettas
$14.35 2009 release. From Carlisle, UK, Manatees are masters of seamlessly mixing destructive crushing heaviness with moving passages of eerie atmospherics and introspective ambience. Laced with feedback and noise, Icarus, The Sunclimber is far darker and bleaker than their previous release We Are Going To Track Down And Kill Vintage Claytahh, The Beard Burning Bastard, a recording that saw them collaborate with Oxbow front man Eugene ...
| | Goblin Cock Come With Me If You Want To Live! CD (2009)
Olidous Operettas
$12.85 You would be hard-pressed to find a band with a more eyebrow-raising name than Goblin Cock, and since the project is a Rob Crow side project rather than a real band per se, one would suspect from the D&D album art and credited pseudonyms (Lord Phallus, Bane Ass-Pounder, King Sith Braindeath, and Loki Sinjuggler) that it's merely a spoof on death metal. Well, that's half true. The band is satirical in concept, but the execution of the music is authentic, unadulterated "rawk" of the truest kind. No joking about it. Get past the druid robes and conceptual silliness, and you're left with a powerfully crushing update of Blue Cheer and Sabbath doomsday grunge that rivals Queens of the Stone Age and Torche in its aptitude and sheer amplitude. It's almost a shame that they've gone the lowbrow dick humor route for marketing Come with Me if You Want to Live, when the music is this good. Thunderous riffs join with crunchy fuzz bass to make the songs "Haint" and "We Got a Bleeder" every bit as catchy and heavy as the last album's single, "Stumped." As a whole, this album is a step up from Bagged and Boarded -- it's more ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Gallery Of Suicide CD (1998) Edited
Olidous Operettas
$9.69 Cannibal Corpse settled into their own gruesome groove early on in their career, spitting out a predictable set of carnage-obsessed trash-rockers on each of their albums. Consequently, their albums can be a little interchangeable, and Gallery of Suicide -- the group's sixth album -- is no different. From the titles ("Disposal of the Body," "Blood Drenched Execution," "Dismembered and Molested," "Stabbed in the Throat," "Centuries of Torment," "Crushing the Despised," "I Will Kill You") to the incessant, buzzing guitars, it's Cannibal Corpse as the fans have come to expect them. It's a little fresher than its predecessor, Vile, but it does have the problem of sounding a little monotonous in comparison to their entire catalog. That may not matter to the hardcore fans, who will inevitably be able to spot subtle differences between this and their previous albums, but it does suggest that the band will need to find a new modus operandi soon in order to keep things fresh. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

| | Dude Where's My Car Dude, Where's My Car? CD (2000) Original Soundtrack
Olidous Operettas
$27.95 Dude Where's My Car was a crummy film, and the soundtrack is surprisingly better. Instead of the same songs that executives think put teen butts in theaters (i.e., Third Eye Blind's catalogue), the CD Dude Where's My Car features lesser-known post-grunge, punk-pop bands. Highlights include Ween's 1994 ...
