Shin is a professional voyeur who provides live camera feeds of everything from the street corner to the public toilet. He is also afflicted with a freakish condition known as synethesia a glitch in his wiring that puts his five senses in a blender and spits out something close to insanity. A high-profile murder propels him into a psychological odyssey in pursuit of Picasso a serial killer, snuff peddler and fellow synesthete who leaves deadly hidden messages in his victims blood that only Shin can decipher. Lulling his victims into a trance with a spellbinding video game, Picasso leads Shin down a mysterious, hypnotic trail of death. Japanese director Toru Matsuura makes his J-horror debut with the atmospheric frightfest SYNESTHESIA. Scripted by Yuji Sakamoto (TOKYO EYES), the film unravels the connections between three disparate individuals who suffer from the titular sensory condition: a police officer (Yosuke Eguchi), a serial killer (Masanobu Ando), and a young woman (Aoi Miyazaki) torn between the two.

$12.35 A political murder mystery set in Nazi-occupied Poland and postwar Paris, NIGHT OF THE GENERALS follows a military investigator, General Grau (Omar Sharif), on his inquiry into a prostitute's murder that has unexpectedly led him to three prime suspects (Peter O'Toole, Donald Pleasence, and Charles Gray)--all generals in the German army. Two years after the murder in Warsaw, Grau is transferred to Paris, where he confronts the man he believes to be the murderer--who is busy framing one of the other generals for the crime. When Paris detective Inspector Morand (Philippe Noiret) gets involved, more than one plot is uncovered in this tense drama that parallels World War II's mass murder with the individual actions of its participants. Director Anatole Litvak's film is based on the best-selling novel by Hans Helmut Kirst.
It is a thriller occurring in World War II about a Nazi General who becomes a serial killer. When a Polish prostitute is brutally murdered ...

$14.45 A collection of two documentaries by Werner Herzog, FATA MORGANA (1971) and LESSONS OF DARKNESS (1992), this program illustrates Herzog's sustained vision, one where nature and man are continually at war with one another. Made more than 20 years apart, these two films are remarkably similar. FATA MORGANA, shot in the Sahara desert, is a mostly silent film, accompanied only by the reading of the Popul Vuh, a Mayan creation myth, and the songs of Leonard Cohen. Poetic, beautiful, and often humorous, Herzog's images twist and turn in the mind, forcing the viewer to step outside themselves and look at the world as a combination and clash between the natural and the man made. LESSONS OF DARKNESS is ostensibly a documentation of Kuwait in the aftermath of the Gulf War, when oil fires were burning up the land and transforming the formerly beautiful countryside into a surreal new landscape. Mostly silent and accompanied by classical music, in a few segments local Kuwaitis bemoan the destructiveness of the fires and the war. Herzog, however, shoots the changed landscape in a way that makes it at once terrifying ...
