On 2007's MYTHMAKER, Skinny Puppy's second studio album since its post-millennial reunion, the veteran Canadian industrial act presents another set of sharp, scathing tunes. As on '04's THE GREATER WRONG OF THE RIGHT, the group--essentially vocalist Nivek Ogre and multi-instrumentalists Cevin Key and Mark Walk--often tempers its harsh sound with atmospheric synth lines and dance-oriented beats, as on the darkly dreamy "Haze" and the burbling "Pasturn." While fans of Skinny Puppy's fierce 1980s material may be reluctant to return to the fold, MYTHMAKER proves that, decades later, the group still stays true to its unapologetically defiant and grim aesthetic.
Audio Mixer: Ken "Hiwatt" Marshall.
Skinny Puppy: Mark Walk, cEvin Key.
Personnel: Mark Walk (guitar, synthesizer, electronics); Saki Kaskas (acoustic guitar); Traz Damji (piano, synthesizer); cEvin Key (synthesizer, percussion, electronics); Ken "Hiwatt" Marshall (synthesizer, electronics); Databomb (percussion).
Uncut (p.95) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Gnarled, sinewy, cyber-chewing techno that's driven by the rage of vocalist/producer Kevin 'Ogre' Ogilvie." Alternative Press (p.194) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "[The album] adds classical-influenced piano and guitar. This sonic expansion is the best strategy the band could have pursued." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.47) - "An acquired, disturbing taste, but a frequently compelling one too." Skinny Puppy Mythmaker Songs Mythmaker Music Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews skinny puppy getting back to their roots!!!! i've been a fan for years and i've seen them live. after stating that, i really didn't get "the greater" album. i played it as musc as i could but that was not a "real" SP album. "mythmaker" on the other hand is a great SP album and it sounds like the SP that i'm use to. i love change and a new sound but the greater album sounded poppy, dancy, and overall gay.lol. overall, mythmaker is one of the best puppy albums made. i like the guitars and the slower songs. more organic. strange at 1st but then it over takes you. i put this album up there with last rights, too dark park, and rabbies. really strong album with a fresh sound. they're back this is some of their finer work, right up there with too dark park, really like daL, like fine wine, acquired taste, and getting better with time. Submitted by bill (seattle, wa.) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
This outing is pumping Since ReMix Dys Temper marked the beginning of the end, this album is getting tempting and bloodthirsty since their early days before their demise in the mid-nineties. Tracks 6 thru 10 prove me right that this album is back where this "puppy" should belong in the first place! There are a couple of mellow tracks but who's kidding who here? They're back! BEST PUPPY SINCE RABIES Every song om MYTHMAKER is amazing Ogre and Key at their best. "Politikil" and "Ugli" were imbedded in my brain after the first listen. Jesus wants to... Submitted by Scribus (Swampland, FL, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful.
The Kings of Industrial Arrangements The ugly refrains and bone shattering soundscapes pummeling along the threads of beautiful melodies and ominous harmonies is why I became and remain a fan. From the first time I listened to 12 inch Anthologies 12 years ago to this release. I am glad they came back after all that mess (TGROTW was a satisfying return), but Mythmaker outdoes all others but Too Dark Park for sheer haunting magnitude and foreboding! If only Nivek was as close to the truth as he thinks he is! These fellas are messed up in the head, but like Van Gogh it flows out of them in works of art like no other can accomplish. Haze, Jaher, and Pasturn are my 3 immediate favs, but every one of these songs turns all other Industrial bands on their heads as SP schools us all in what it means to be Industrial! Mythmaker album
$29.65 This edition features remastered material and bonus tracks. Also includes a 13-minute interview with Ian Anderson.
The leap from 1970's BENEFIT to the following year's AQUALUNG is one of the most astonishing progressions in rock history. In the space of one album, Tull went from relatively unassuming electrified folk-rock to larger-than-life conceptual rock full of sophisticated compositions and complex, intellectual lyrical constructs. While the leap to full-blown prog-rock wouldn't be taken until a year later on THICK AS A BRICK, the degree to which Tull upped the ante here is remarkable. The lyrical concept--the hypocrisy of Christianity in England--is stronger than on most other '70s conceptual efforts, but it is ultimately the music that makes the album.
Tull's winning way with a riff was never so arresting as on the chugging "Locomotive Breath," or the character studies "Cross Eyed Mary" and "Aqualung," which portray believably seedy participants in Ian Anderson's story. The fable imagery of "Mother Goose" and the vitriolic anti-authoritarian sentiments of "Wind Up" both serve notice of Anderson's willful iconoclasm and his disillusionment with the spiritual traditions to which he was born. Varied but cohesive, AQUALUNG is widely regarded as Tull's finest hour.

| | Gary Stewart Best Of The Hightone Years CD (2002)
Mythmaker CD music
$11.39 Gary Stewart has never fit comfortably into anyone's preconceptions about what a country singer should be. With a voice like Jerry Lee Lewis fed through a tremolo effect, and a hard-hitting approach to barroom ballads, Stewart has never been a part of any movement but very much his own man. He recorded for various labels earlier in his career, with varying success, but by the time he landed at indie haven Hightone, the renegade found just the right home, and this collection of latter-day recordings is uncommonly consistent. "Brand New Whiskey" demonstrates Stewart's ability to wring new variations on the time-tested format of the drinking song. "Nothin' But a Woman" flirts with southern rock courtesy of Warren Haynes's slide guitar. "I Get Drunk" is a humor-filled, ...

Mythmaker music CDs
$15.59 Susanna And The Magical Orchestra includes: Susanna Wallumrod (vocals); Morten Qvenild (keyboards).
Albums don't come much more beautiful than List of Lights and Buoys. Susanna is singer Susanna Karolina Wallumrod, age 23 at the time of this debut CD. The Magical Orchestra is actually Jaga Jazzist keyboardist Morten Qvenild. And the music doesn't sound orchestral at all. Co-producer Andreas Mjos (also of Jaga Jazzist) adds some vibes, timpani, guitar, and electronics. Helge Sten (aka Deathprod and a quarter of the group Supersilent) ...
