Veteran slashers Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees join forces in this combination sequel to the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The film begins with a quick recap of both Freddy and Jason's "lives," underscoring their respective motivations to kill and their distinct weaknesses. Freddy (Robert Englund) explains that the present children of Elm St. (including Monica Keena, Jason Ritter, Katherine Isabelle, and Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child) have no memory of him, and if they don't know he exists, he can't enter their dreams to kill them. Ingeniously, he reaches out to Jason (Ken Kirzinger), the brutish death machine from Camp Crystal Lake, to go on an Elm Street killing spree, hoping a lot of gory murder will jog the town's memory.
Jason is up to the task, quickly dispensing with teenager after teenager in suburban homes, cornfields, medical labs and, of course, the forest. Freddy grows jealous over Jason's body count, and so must intervene, setting off a battle royale between the two highly adored slasher heroes across dreamworlds and realities. ...

The rest of the album provides thirteen tracks of Kelly's typically strong and sensual modern R&B. He starts off the record with a reminder that he's far from a one-note artist, coming on as hard as anyone with the anthemic single "Playa's Club," then rolls into a 1970s groove with help from the always-spectacular Snoop Dogg on "Happy Summertime," before easing into a set of slow jams highlighted by the lusty "In the Kitchen" and the breezy "Slow Wind." As much as R. Kelly can't seem to stop getting himself into trouble, he also can't stop releasing original, arousing albums. TP.3 is no exception.
Even with the endless controversy surrounding him, R. Kelly never slowed down, ever-ready to take more and more chances. This album's 15-minute final cut, "Trapped in the Closet," was easily the most ambitious undertaking the Chicago native had undertaken in his two decades of making music. ...

While listening to Bearded Ladies, Vol. 1, it's hard not to get the feeling that Jane Weaver, who compiled the set, couldn't decide if she wanted to put together a set of contemporary freak folk or a collection of vintage singer/songwriter oddities in the manner of Numero Group's acclaimed Wayfaring Strangers: Ladies from the Canyon -- so she did both at the same time. Bearded Ladies faces modern day acts such as Speck Mountain, Jane Weaver, and Lispector off against tracks from '70s cult heroines like Wendy & Bonnie, Susan Christie, and Brigitte Fontaine. Unfortunately, most of the older acts are considerably more interesting than the contemporary artists, who for the most part sound like they're struggling to be eccentric in a way that came naturally to their forebears. In addition, the vintage tracks on this set lack a great deal in the way of major discoveries -- unlike Ladies from the Canyon, there aren't many tunes here that make you eager ...
