Surprisingly bittersweet moments and well-intentioned social commentary imbue this raucous, feel-good comedy from England. Academy Award Nominations: 4, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score. Academy Award: Best Original Musical or Comedy Score. Full Monty Movie Review Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) Overrated This is supposed to be the best comedy about the down-and-out coming out on top. It is funny for one viewing but does not stand up to repeated watching. The best thing about the film is Mark Addy's performance. Amusing, witty, English humour Probably one of the most humerous films of Northern England, showing how unemployed Northern English men can be at their best in the worst of situations. The film made me laugh from start ot finish and leaves you on a high at the end. It's one of those films that you just don't forget and can watch again and again and still enjoy. A funny “Hot Stuff” movie! Different type of unemployed Englishmen will take unexpected risks and go through many funny adventures just to overtake their personal problems in a difficult society in which they live in. These six celebrities are going to start preparing the “last” job they could have imagined to do... and what a job! Definitely, this movie is one of my favorite comedies from the 90’s. I assure it won’t disappoint you, unless you’ve lost your sense of humor! Submitted by christian_grierson (Madrid, SPAIN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

CD (1993)

$10.65 Escapist treats abound from this mysterious, tongue-in-cheek collective from the Southern United States. Man or Astro-man? have an ear for yesterday's sounds of tomorrow, as they decorate their mostly instrumental tracks with obscure sound bytes from out-of-date sci-fi movies and forgotten TV shows. Silly, dangerous, occasionally sloppy, but never boring, their album Is It Man...or Astro-Man? is the answer for everyone running low on laser gun/go-go/surf/spy/cowboy/drag racing/'60s/bullfighter/Mars-invasion/motorbike music. Songs like "Taxidermist Surf," "Invasion of the Dragonmen," and "Journey to the Stars" (originally by the Ventures) gallop along with the energy of a dozen wild stallions headed for Neptune. "Nitrous Burn Out" is a fantastic bit of racetrack romp, liberally mixed with roaring pistons and accident bulletins along the way. With anything so aggressively "up" in nature, there are a couple moments that inevitably droop a bit in exhaustion, like the novelty filler of "Organ Smash" and the uncharacteristically long "Alien Visitors," that tiredly meanders through some of the very same clichEs that at other times serve the band best. This being said, how can you turn your back on musicians that insist on the sheer fun of it all, when bandmates have memorable names like Star Crunch, Dr. Delecto & His Invisible Vaportron, Coco, the Electronic Monkey Wizard, Birdstuff, and Grand Master Useless? It's been said that listeners must see this band in concert in order to get a better ...
| | Hi-Lo's Happen To Bossa Nova/The Hi-Lo's Happen To Folk Song CD (2002)
Full Monty review
$11.95 The Hi-Lo's on Reprise reissues two of the Hi-Lo's albums on Reprise from 1963: The Hi-Lo's Happen to Bossa Nova and The Hi-Lo's Happen to Folk Songs. Both are uncharacteristic efforts that show the group's willingness to push the pop-vocal group format in new directions. The bossa nova album sets the quartet's harmonies to Brazilian beats and music, while the folk album applies traditional pop instrumentation and Four Freshmen-styled vocal arrangements to country and folk songs. The effect is unusual and over-the-top; hearing songs associated with unadorned, old-timey feel (like "Turkey in the Straw"). These songs, reconceived as citified pop dramas with wailing horns and gymnastic vocals, are truly a one-of-a-kind experience. These are among ...
| | Spike Jones Omnibust/60 Years Of "Music America Hates Best" CD (2002)
Full Monty DVD
$15.29 Omnibust/60 Years of Music America Hates Best pairs two of Spike Jones' Liberty albums from 1960 on one disc. Omnibust is a largely spoken word parody of television programming that takes a swipe at Lawrence Welk, children's programming, commercials, soap operas, and the then-popularity of detective show theme music. "I Search for Golden Adventure (In My Seven Leaky Boots)" manages to parody adventure shows and Martin Denny's "The Quiet Village" at the same time, while "The Wonderful World of Hari Kari" revisits the Asian stereotypes that Jones employed a decade earlier with his hit "Chinese Mule Train." Although recorded after the breakup of Jones' City Slickers, his old cohort Doodles Weaver returns to reprise his performance of the "William Tell Overture" in "A Mudder's Day Sport Spectacular." 60 Years of Music America Hates Best is a more pointedly musical effort on which Jones and his studio crew lampoon a variety of 20th century popular songs and styles, replete with his trademark horns and whistles. Much of this music would sound like something from an earlier era if not for the sparkling stereo sound. "Three Little Fishies" and "Hut Sut Song" are naturals for Jones' wit, and "Mairzy Doats" is so disorienting it could provoke flashbacks in a reformed LSD user. Turning toward rock & roll, Jones turns "Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb" into a Halloween song, and spoofs "Tequila"-style instrumentals with "Pimples and Braces." In a strange move, Collectables reissued this two-fer in 2006 while the Taragon edition was ...

$8.99 In hiding in Mexico, hit man Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Bruce Willis) has become a veritable Martha Stewart, cooking and cleaning up a storm. Meanwhile, his new wife Jill (Amanda Peet) is distraught that her own career as an assassin has yet to take off. When Jimmy's ex-wife Cynthia (Natasha Henstridge) is kidnapped by Hungarian mobster Lazlo Gogolak (Kevin Pollak), her husband, klutzy dentist Nicholas "Oz" Oseransky (Matthew Perry) turns to Jimmy for help. Soon, Jimmy, Jill, and Oz are involved in a game of cat and mouse with Lazlo and his men trying to trade Cynthia for Lazlo's dim-witted adult son, whom the trio has kidnapped. But do Jimmy and his ex have a secret that they're not sharing with their spouses? Are their new marriages just an elaborate ruse in order to pull off a huge scam? And will Oz ever see his beautiful wife again? Directed by Howard Deutch (PRETTY IN PINK, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL), this sequel to THE WHOLE NINE YARDS is filled with quirky characters, amusing banter, and plenty of physical comedy. Pollak is particularly amusing as a master criminal surrounded by an inept team.
Thanks to falsified dental records, retired hitman Jimmy "The Tulip" Tudeski (Bruce Willis) faked his own death and has taken up a new line of work as a homemaker for his ...
