Metal historians have offered a long list of possible reasons why, in the '80s and early '90s, British thrash metal/speed metal veterans Onslaught were not as well known as Slayer, Metallica, Testament, Megadeth, Anthrax or Exodus -- and those reasons range from uneven, inconsistent albums to inadequate promotion to lineup changes to less than stellar production. Whatever the reason (or reasons), most of those headbanger historians naturally assumed that Onslaught would never be heard from again after disbanding in 1991. But in 2005, Onslaught surprised metalheads by getting back together. That is, they surprised the metalheads who were actually familiar with their old '80s output; a lot of folks had never heard of them (especially on the U.S. side of the Atlantic Ocean). Killing Peace is Onslaught's comeback album and their first recording since 1989's In Search of Sanity, and there is nothing uneven or inconsistent about this CD; the material is excellent, the performances inspired, crisp and undeniably focused. Onslaught's sound on this 2007 release is best described as '80s-style thrash metal/speed metal with a strong Slayer influence, a healthy appreciation of Judas Priest and hints of death metal. None of the forceful, hard-hitting tunes (which are obsessed with Satanism, war and the Occult -- much like Slayer) are even slightly groundbreaking by 2007 standards, but all of them are executed with plenty of conviction. If one needs a sports analogy, Onslaught come across like veteran baseball players who never made it to the major leagues but have done a lot of training and working out in recent years and are determined to make up for lost time. Killing Peace is definitely a respectable comeback, and for those who have never heard Onslaught, it is a fine place to get acquainted with the thrash veterans. ~ Alex Henderson

Kerrang (Magazine) (p.50) - "Onslaught aim squarely for the jugular, making neck-snapping speedfests like 'Burn' and the spiffing title-track a truly excellect thrash, ahem, 'onslaught'." Onslaught Killing Peace Songs | 1. | Burn | $0.99 | |

| | Blood Tsunamiu Thrash Metal CD (2007)
Killing Peace music CDs
$13.45 If a style of music goes out of vogue, someone will likely try to make it popular again (or at least make it more plentiful). That's why the music world has seen a Dixieland revival in the '50s, a rockabilly revival movement in the late '70s and early '80s, and a power metal revival movement in the '90s and 2000s. Thrash metal's peak years were the '80s and early '90s, and the fact that Blood Tsunami named this 2007 release Thrash Metal indicates that the Norwegian band would love to see a big thrash revival movement in the early 2000s. But there's a twist: Evil Pete, Blood Tsunami's lead singer/founder, doesn't sound like the frontman for an '80s thrash band -- he sings with the type of sinister, straight-from-hell rasp that black metal is known for. In terms of riffs and song ...

$13.25 On what would turn out to be New Grass Revival's final album, Friday Night in America, the band advanced their sound beyond their own previous pioneering. Their genre-busting brand of rocked-out progressive bluegrass is at its most rockin' -- almost bordering on hair metal with banjos. John Cowan's emotive vocals soar above the delicate ...

| | Jackie Child Fresh Start CD (2007)
Killing Peace album
$11.49 As the youngest child born into a very musical family, Jackie began piano lessons at the age of eight, with her oldest sister being her first piano teacher. Jackie took naturally to the piano, and loved to practice even as a child. She had many experiences singing with her sisters at different events and grew to love singing as well. She continued her piano studies during her teenage years, where she competed in the Utah State Fair Piano Competition for several years. Jackie tied for second place in that competition at the age of fifteen. Jackie had a love for ballet as well as piano, and worked diligently developing her talents in both areas. Jackie performed in Ballet West’s “The Nutcracker” for five years, playing the main children’s part of Clara for two of those years. One of her fondest memories of performing was when she was able to blend both of these talents for the Willam F. Christensen Ballet Academy Benefit in 1981, when she both danced with the group and also performed a Chopin Waltz as piano accompaniment for the other dancers. While in High School Jackie was able to both sing with and accompany different choral groups. She went on to Brigham Young University where she continued her piano studies under the tutelage of Robert Smith. She graduated from BYU in 1985 with a bachelor of arts degree in Piano Performance. Jackie’s musical background has been primarily classical piano, but over the last decade or so, she has discovered a gift for creating her own inspirational, peaceful and healing music. This creative process has been a source of great joy and comfort as she examines different themes such as, motherhood, the beauty of childhood, the loss of loved ones, faith, hope and the ability for a fresh start in life. Jackie’s debut album, “Fresh Start”, had its beginnings as a surprise Christmas ...
