After working his way through the rock and R&B repertoire of the 70's he rediscovered jazz through the music of Weather Report. This gradually pulled him towards the saxophone to which he switched while living in Germany in the late 70's. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA and returned to London in 1983 where he started working with bands such as Grand Union, Loose Tubes, and quartets/quintets under his own direction.

In 1984, a year in the Canary Islands started a long-standing relationship with all things Latin, leaving him with a strong affinity for Brazilian and Latin music that has pervaded his subsequent work. Back in London he worked with El Sonido de Londres, Sambatucada, Roberto Pla, touring with Cuban exiles Alfredo Rodriguez, Patato Valdes and Bebo Valdez (father of Chucho).

Jerome began singing at the tender age of six and has been affiliated with many choirs since then. He was a member of the North Natchez High School Choir. During his singing career he was Founder and President of the Unity Gospel Choir, President of the Renewal Choir under the direction of his brother Alvin Shelby, Sr. and was a member of the Brothers of Faith quartet-singing group of Natchez, Mississippi. Currently, he is the founder and lead singer of J. Myles & The Voices of Praise.

He is the gospel radio announcer/production manager with WTYJ-FM 97.

J volunteered at various church youth organizations. Along with Victory Assembly in Providence R.

I ministered at various street ministries, homeless shelters and youth events. Ester Magazine in Philadelphia and The Victorious Living Foundation in St. Maarten are some of the youth based organization. C.J. ministered for and volunteered her services, encouraging young people to believe in them selves and never give up on their dreams. Her talent allows her to be versatile exploring genres ranging from Jazz to hip hop. In St. Maarten Cutie had the opportunity to perform & record with some of the best musicians on the island. Her sister Lynn is a "Famu" graduate with a BS in Music Education and is now teaching on the island. The twins recently performed together at the 2005 Summer Fest Gospel night, in St. Maarten, sharing the stage with some of the islands best Gospel artists. The group was also the 2002 recipient of the Caribbean Gospel Music Award'Marlin Award' in Nassau Bahamas.
