| | Scott Ainslie Terraplane CD (1998)
So Much Trouble music CDs
$17.09 Terraplane is a strong acoustic blues album in every way. Ainslie is not just unplugged, but almost entirely unaccompanied here. He is completely exposed as a fine solo guitarist on acoustic, resophonic, and electric guitar, as well as in his amazingly complex and vibrant diddley bow versions of "Parchmans Farm Blues," "If I Had Possession Over Judgment Day," and his own original "You Gotta Get Up." His great singing throughout reaches amazing intensity in Rev. Gary Davis' classic dark gospel tune, "Death Don't Have No Mercy." This is a stunning collection of blues and originals (all of which feel like traditional blues. They'll be hard to pick out without looking at the album notes).Ainslie's work as an acoustic blues performer has a different spin from most. In addition to good chops on slide and ragtime blues guitar and strong vocals; he's bringing twenty years of scholarship, and fieldwork with older blues and gospel musicians. His live shows include enough of the stories and background ...
| | Willie Wisely Go! CD (2003)
So Much Trouble songs
$12.65 As a prelude to a newly recorded album from Wisely (his now officially abbreviated moniker) slated for release in the upcoming year, Linus of Hollywood's Franklin Castle label brought out Go!, an "introduction" to one of the most lamentably overlooked pop/rock virtuosos of the 1990s. And it is properly labeled as such since there was so much top-drawer music on the singer/songwriter's magnificent pair of solo albums, She and Turbosherbert. It is not at all difficult to figure out why Linus of Hollywood would want to rescue the artist's legacy from the undeserved obscurity into which it had fallen. First of all, as writers and performers, both artists share many of the same influences, stylistic leanings, and musical antecedents (Wisely, too, particularly sounds like a dead ringer for Emitt Rhodes at times, best heard here on the title track), yet both manage to fit predilections for sonic diversity and experimentation into singular sounds. And simply put, this is rich stuff from both songwriting and melodic standpoints, and beautifully performed to boot. Nitpickers could quibble here or there with the song selection. ...
| | Ryan Waters Nothing Left To Leave Behind CD (2006)
So Much Trouble album
$16.45 Ryan Waters' long list of accomplishments as a musician and performer directly reflects his desire to create music with integrity without regard for convention and genre. Recently, Ryan played a major role in what Vibe Magazine called 'the best concert tour of 2001' as lead guitarist for Sade. As the youngest and only American member of Sade's legendary band, millions of people were exposed to Ryan's talents and with the recent release of the Sade, Lovers Live album and concert film, millions more will be able to appreciate his contributions to Sade for years to come. Before his work with Sade, Ryan was a familiar face on New York City's progressive, urban live music scene. As the leader of his own Ryan Waters Band, Ryan wrote, produced and independently released two original albums on which he performed all of the vocal and instrumental tracks himself. He made appearances in many of the city's top live music venues, but chose to put most of his energy toward interacting with other creative minds in various group projects. He wrote, recorded and toured with V2 recording artist Olu, a Harlem based soul singer who's album Soul Catcher won much critical acclaim. Ryan also co-founded a musical collective called Earthdriver that brought together many of New York's most progressive underground artists and he produced the groups' debut independent release No One's Slave, which, through the support of legendary producer Bill Laswell, has found a large audience in Japan on the Dogtail label. Ryan discovered and honed his talents in his hometown of Portland, Oregon where he started on the family piano at the age of five and soon began studying guitar at the local music store. By the time Ryan finished 7th grade, he was already playing guitar in a blues band and had become proficient ...
| | Rocky Jackson Squeeze Here CD (2006)
So Much Trouble CD music
$11.49 Rocky Jackson brings years of blues experience together in this album that features his soulful vocals and expressive guitar chops. 'Squeeze Here' delivers contemporary blues tunes in the caliber of Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, and Keb Mo, and traditional blues tunes that reflect Rocky's experience with and love of the roots. Born in Austin, Texas, Rocky has made Southern California his home for many years, playing around the Los Angeles area with many great blues performers. His guitar work incorporates a blend of the gritty, stinging style of Texas blues and the soulful, fluid style of Chicago and Detroit blues. Always enamoured by the Delta blues and its deceivingly simplistic form, many of Rocky's tunes are composed of elements of this rich style of mesmerizing music and storytelling. Rocky sings with conviction and a quality not often heard these days. As a lyricist, Rocky demonstrates an adeptness at creating vivid images portraying the content of his songs. 'Squeeze Here' includes several cuts featuring Rocky playing some scorching licks on the electric, six-string lap steel guitar. This album features members of Rocky's current band, The Ignitors, augmented with some ...
