On CONQUEROR, his second full-length album under the guise of Jesu, former Godflesh singer/guitarist Justin Broadrick builds on the shoegazer leanings of the SILVER EP, resulting in a hypnotic set of strikingly heavy indie rock. Featuring spare rhythms and buried vocals, the record finds Broadrick densely layering guitar and keyboard lines for a sound that is both minimal and disarmingly full. Often moving at a glacial pace (see the swirling title track and the epic "Weightless & Horizontal"), CONQUEROR's songs convey a certain sense of majesty as they slowly unfurl, rewarding the listener with a fascinating collection that easily ranks among the top post-rock releases of 2007.
Personnel: Ted Parsons (drums, percussion).
Recording information: Avalanche, England (2006); Mok Music Studios, Oslo, Norway (2006).
Alternative Press (p.138) - 4.5 stars out of 5 -- "CONQUEROR's lush atmospheric synth hues, kaleidoscopic ambience and dazzling melodic guitar heaviness live up to the billing..." The Wire (p.50) - "[A]lmost lush at times, specially on 'Weightless & Horizontal' and 'Medicine'....The guitars are the point of his music, as they always have been." Conqueror Music Review Average Rating: (4.2 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews More of the same Sounds just like what you would expect Disc 2 of the first CD to sound like... vocals are clearer and play a larger role, but the rest sounds almost identical to their self-titled debut. Simply put: if you liked the first CD, you'll probably like this one; if you were disappointed or bored by the first CD and are wondering if this sounds more like Godflesh, you're not going to like this one either.
Godflesh was a completely different band with a completely different sound, and hoping that a Jesu CD will sound like Godflesh is as futile as hoping the next Delerium CD will sound like classic Front Line Assembly. Submitted by Purple (NC, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

something very different from the norm very different. I didnt like it at first but after repeated listens it grew on me. I listen to it when im in the mood to lay down and drift away in smooth melancholic soundscapes. a nice listen with some striking chord changes and subtle details. the light repetitive ebb of the songs is very relaxing. A real wonderwork inside I do not agree with other rewiewers and I give to this album 5 stars with no doubts. Every song is stunning. Fantastic harmonics and arrangements. Mood of the album is basically positive, sound is very warm and heavy. Again - miraculous minimalistic lyrics. This is a real EUROPEAN music at it's best. You must hear it. Pretty good, but not their best..... First of all let me say that I'm a huge JKB fan and have been for over 13 years now & I like just about all of his projects including Jesu. After the awesome "Heartache" and "Silver" EPs, I can hear where the evolution of Justin's songwriting is taking him, but I honestly think this album is lacking a little in intensity and versatility. Almost every song is slow, filled with trademark Jesu synths and vocal processing, the vocal melodies are hit or miss, some of them just sing the same notes as the guitar and bass the whole time while some of them are haunting and excellent. I would not use the words "heavy" or "industrial" to describe this whatsoever. Like the previous reviewer said, this is certainly NOT Godflesh or Techno Animal. It's a cascading, melodic 8 track journey that stabs the listener with ghostly synths layered over Justin's familiar raw, dissonant guitar tone. His vocals are soft and tranquil, Ted Parsons' drumbeats are minimal, but effective and D. Dalton's bass is as thick and meaty as ever. I would have liked to hear a little more guitar riffing and tempo/feel/mood changes, but overall, this is still a great CD. The Japanese import has a bonus disc that has 2 20 minute tracks entitled "Sun Rise" and "Sun Down" that are so good, I can't believe they arent on the regular version. Purchase Conqueror CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Isis Panopticon CD (2004)
Conqueror album
$13.05 If the glacial dynamics of previous metal and hardcore abstractions Celestial and Oceanic didn't prove that Isis was a heavy band in every sense, then Panopticon should do the trick. The title comes from 18th century philosopher Jeremy Bentham's prison design, which was later referenced by Michael Foucault in the 20th century. The idea is that a centrally placed guard or watcher can keep track of a large number of prisoners, and it excited Bentham and concerned Foucault. Heavy stuff for a metal band, huh? Both are quoted in the liner notes, bookended by aerial industrial photos laying out society's open sprawl. It fits perfectly with the epic music on the ...

| | Bon Jovi CD (1984) Remastered
Conqueror music CDs
$8.09 Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack.
"Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. "She Don't Know Me" is a catchy mid-tempo rocker. "Shot Through the Heart" turns the hard-rocking pulse up a few notches, with Richie Sambora letting loose on the kind of solo that would be copied by a plethora of L.A. bands. David Bryan's keyboards, an integral part of the group's sound, work nicely on the melodic rocker "Breakout." At a time when synthesizers dominated the pop landscape, Bon Jovi used them to gloss a heavy-rock foundation. "Come Back" shows the enormity of the charisma and emotion that Jon poured into his singing. BON JOVI is a great debut by a band in its underground, formative stage; a street album from a band hungry to make it.

$10.19 After fronting Californian doom gods Saint Vitus throughout their most fertile career phase, in the second half of the 1980s, lead vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich decided to throw in his towel, dust off his long-in-disuse guitar playing talents, and resurrect his original retro-metal power trio, the Obsessed. Unfortunately, the band's first eponymous album from 1990 (there had been an EP -- the legendary Sodden Jackal -- way back in 1983) was patched together from ancient recordings and contained disappointingly few outstanding songs to recommend it, and it wasn't until the following year's sophomore ...
