After issuing SO LONG, ASTORIA, the Ataris' 2003 major label debut on Columbia, the band toured extensively, worked on new material, left Columbia, and started their own label. That label's first release (in conjunction with Sanctuary) is 2007's WELCOME THE NIGHT. Unlike the band's earlier pop-punk blasts, WELCOME THE NIGHT is steeped in atmospheric guitar washes and post-punk textures.
Lead singer and songwriter Kris Roe is still the focus of the band, but his melodies, lyrics, and arrangements have taken on a moody cast, and the change is a welcome one. The Ataris have clearly been mixing some Joy Division in with their Blink 182 CDs. But Roe hasn't lost his knack for insistent hooks and anthemic choruses (note "The Cheyenne Line"), so longtime fans will still have plenty to appreciate.

Ataris Welcome The Night Songs Welcome The Night Music Review Average Rating: (2.8 out of 5 stars) New To Ataris I've never heard this band before today, I must say not the best band I've ever heard but not bad either. They have a different sound.
I'm sure all bands do change with time, so if you are a new fan to them, I would suggest checking this album out, along with the others. I'll let you decide which is better. But I enjoy it. Submitted by Laura (Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Not very good at all... I honestly can not believe this is The Ataris. I was anticipating this album for years, but when I finally bought it I couldn't even begin to explain my disappointment. And this is coming from a true Ataris fan. I like when a band matures with age like Blink-182 but I hate when you can't even recognize the band anymore. There is maybe one listen able song on this album. Submitted by Jaye Shamanske (plymouth, mi) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
good it has a much more mature sound. i love it, although i miss the old ataris a bit. Submitted by Prestley214 (Portland, Oregon) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The Wait Is Over! finally, it's out. it was a great album overall, but strayed quite far from their original sound. there are a few faster paced songs, but it has really slowed down. Submitted by foodsexewe (pennsylvania) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Welcome The Night songs
$11.29 Santa Barbara's Ataris were among the legions of pop-punk bands to emerge in the late 1990s. Like many of their contemporaries, the Ataris owe something of a debt to the Descendents and the Buzzcocks, but a large part of their sound comes out of the alternative rock of the '90s. BLUE SKIES, BROKEN HEARTS...NEXT 12 EXITS is the Ataris sophomore effort, and the band avoids the notorious second-album slump by cranking out 14 high-energy, concise tunes rife with hooks, power chords, and hopped-up rhythms.
While the Ataris know how to rock (only the acoustic guitar and cello duet of "My Hotel Year" deviates from the slashing electric guitars ...

Welcome The Night music CDs
$21.29 If U.K. post-punk originators Joy Division had released only their two studio albums, their almost mythical status would already have been secured. But the appearance of an unfortunate spate of poorly conceived bootlegs shortly after the demise of lead singer Ian Curtis only complicated and added to the band's legend. To redress this problem and more properly honor the band's legacy, Factory Records issued the two-disc, posthumous odds-and-sods collection, STILL. Not a Joy Division album proper so much as a repertory of B-sides, studio outtakes, and live performances, the collection serves to round out the band's story--revealing superlative ...
