$16.39 Long considered an art mecca, Taos is also famous for its diverse and culturally rich music scene. These independent musicians will convince you that living in such a town has big appeal. Enjoy! Jenny Bird spent her teenage years touring Europe as a professional musician before she discovered Taos more than twenty-five years ago. She has released six critically acclaimed albums. Much of her musical inspiration comes from the land around Taos and her song, "Dirt," is a tribute to years of building with adobe. Raised in the farming community of Coon Valley, Wisconsin, Tony Schueller arrived in Taos with only a guitar on his back. Tony's 2003 release, "Unconvinced," reveals the inspired guitar work for which he is known. His second CD, "Desert Highway," is now out on Revolution Records.Les Lokey was born in south Texas, just the other end of a sandbar from Janis Joplin's hometown. After a nomadic life, Les rolled into Taos with only fumes in her tank. She's a multi-genre artist who is about to release her sixth album. For more than twenty-five years, Michael Hearne has been synonymous with the Taos music scene. From his early days of touring with Michael Martin Murphy to the beloved dance band South by Southwest, Mike has become a legend. He has more than a dozen albums to his credit, including "Sight and Sound," where this song can be found. It was co-written with Grammy winner Andy Byrd and Mentor Williams, writer of "Drift Away" and many other hits. Kim Treiber of Kim and the Caballeros came to Taos more than twenty years ago and she's been involved in the music scene ever since. She's released a solo effort and two albums with Burning Joan and her recent "Blue Hearted Girl." Kim is also co-founder of the DreamTree Project, a non-profit for homeless youth. Eddy Lee moved to Taos as a teenager and was immediately inspired by the unique music of the region. He grew up to become a member of several of the region's top acts, including South by Southwest and Hired Hands. He co-wrote the song "I Can Almost Hear Her Wings" with Randy Travis. Currently he performs solo and with his band Acoustic Crossroads and is set to re-release his record, "Horses on the Moon."Taos first called to Bogey in the '80s but it's been home for the past six years. Bogey's 2004 "Rock Art" is a follow up to her highly praised debut album, "Primarily Yours." She is currently working in her home studio on her next release. Carl Struck, a Nashville songwriter, came to Taos to visit a friend and fell in love with the area's rustic beauty. Publishing more than fifty songs, he's been covered by artists such as the Judds ("Talk About Love") and Lee Greenwood ("I Still Look For You"). In 2004 he released two albums, "Nashville Daze" and "Mountain Thyme." Adrienne Braswell drifted in and out of town for years, until the late '90s when she landed for good, or at least for now. She has opened for Ferron, Lyle Lovett and J.J. Cale among others, and has just released her debut album, "Blue Door."Mike Laughlin is a Taos native who works hard to bring music ...
| | Robert Gordon With Link Wray/Fresh Fish Specials CD (1977)
Burning Photographs songs
$10.29 ROBERT GORDON WITH LINK WRAY/FRESH FISH SPECIALS was originally released as 2 seperate LPs. The single compact disc contains 9 additional tracks that did not appear on the original albums.
Lester Bangs once described Robert Gordon as looking as if he belonged in a natural history museum identified as "Bopcatus Americanus," and while his first album wasn't the one that inspired the comment, the vintage duds and greased-up pompadour he sports on the front cover would have done any pop-culture archeologist proud. While Gordon first hit the New York City rock scene as a proto-punk with Tuff Darts, when he struck out on his own in 1977 he was one of America's first rockabilly revivalists, covering the likes of Eddie Cochran, Billy Lee Riley, and Carl Perkins as if he was waiting for Sam Phillips to stop by and discover him. For this album, Gordon paired up with legendary guitarist Link Wray, and the result was a solid and evocative tribute to first-era rock & roll, though with a few details turned around. Wray was never really a rockabilly player, and while he brings plenty of fire and gritty presence to these sessions, the "Rumble" man sometimes seems to be holding back uncomfortably on the quieter songs, waiting for the opportunity to offer the full-bore blast that was his stock in trade (and he delivers it on cuts like "Flying Saucers Rock & Roll"). The rest of Gordon's band often sounds more utilitarian than inspired, but they also don't overplay and rock these tunes with clean power. And while Gordon doesn't bring much of a personality of his ...
