Sings Blues album
$11.55 Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa gets up to his usual tricks on THE BALLAD OF JOHN HENRY, dabbling in a variety of genres, but injecting them all with a serious dose of guitar heroics. Like his musical forefather Stevie Ray Vaughan, ...

| | Paul Butterfield Blues Band CD (1965)
Sings Blues music CDs
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's release in 1965, it was impossible to walk down the hall of any college dorm in America without hearing one of the songs here echoing from somebody's room.
Heard today, the thing still packs a wallop. Butterfield's harmonica and vocals are utterly idiomatic, ...

| | Pete Escovedo E Street CD (1997)
Sings Blues music CDs
$9.89 E Street is an all-star affair led by percussionist Pete Escovedo, the father of drummer/percussionist Sheila E., who also guests on E Street along with several Escovedo siblings, saxophonists John Handy, Gerald Albright and Mel Martin, and pianist/vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery.
E Street seems to expend a great deal of energy going in a lot of different directions -- wide-open freeways of Latin rock, lit up with horns and sparkling with guitar, piano, trumpet and of course percussion solos; rolling, soft cha-cha ballads; and new yet familiar byways with covers of Earth Wind & Fire's "Fantasy" and Stevie Wonder's "Another Star" -- but it never seems to actually GET anywhere. The only breaks in the placid scenery come from the appropriately titled fiesta jam "Like a Volcano" and the surprisingly stirring, hymn-with-vocals "Lord Remember Me," which closes this set. ~ Chris Slawecki

| | Makem & Clancy Two For The Early Dew CD (1992)
Sings Blues songs
$14.45 Tommy Makem and Liam Clancy may be the two most famous Irish musicians in history. This 1970s recording documents several Irish classics and even a few tunes written by Makem and Clancy themselves which have become classics in their own right. The deep voice of Tommy Makem and the lighter toned singing of Liam Clancy blend well together on this eleven song disc. We hear this best on "Bower Madden ...

| | Georgia Mass Choir I Sing Because I'm Happy CD (1992)
Sings Blues CD music
$14.49 I SING BECAUSE I'M HAPPY is a gospel album in the modern gospel choir tradition. This singing style owes as much to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as it does to earlier gospel stars Mahalia Jackson and the Reverend James A. Cleveland, and accordingly, some gospel fans might find the vocal performances excessively acrobatic. Fans of the style, conversely, should find much to enjoy here both in terms of quality and quantity ...

| | Dr John Desitively Bonnaroo CD (1974)
Sings Blues songs
$16.55 When you latch onto a hit formula, don't mess with it, and that is just what the doctor ordered with Desitively Bonnaroo. With installment number three of Dr. John's funky New Orleans-styled rock & roll, trying to strike gold again proved elusive. There wasn't the big hit single this time around to help boost sales, and the tunes were starting to sound a little too familiar. While not a carbon copy of his previous releases, Desitively Bonnaroo was a disappointment to his fans. Good as it was, it was the end of an era for Dr. John and his type of music. ~ James Chrispell
Features the Meters as backing band, production by Allen Toussaint. Now again available on CD. Dr. John's last great album of the 1970s. (First received: 9/11/07)
Recorded at Criteria, Miami, Florida and Sea-Saint Studios, New Orleans, ...
