| | Notes & Hopes CD Notes & Hopes Discography of CDs
We have all been touched by cancer in one way or another, maybe a friend has it, maybe a parent, maybe you yourself. Buying this album is not going to find some miracle cure but it will let those with the disease know that they aren’t alone, we will all make it through this together.Every artist on this cd has a unique sound, I compiled them together to represent the fact that not just one "type" of person gets cancer. This cd has a lot of different styles of music, the idea is that cancer affects everyone differently in a negative way, music touches everyone differently in a positive way.Music forces us to come to terms with our emotions, the music on this album is of a wide variety, not everyone is going to like every song, just like emotions, we don't get to chose just the ones we like.Mixed and remastered at Blue Skies Recording StudioSt. Thomas OntarioProceeds from Notes & Hopes go to support cancer care, support, & research. | | Black Tape For A Blue Girl Rope CD (1997)
Notes & Hopes
$13.19 The debut Black Tape album, especially in light of the band's later efforts, makes for an interesting listen in retrospect. On the one hand, much of what would make Black Tape so distinct is already in place: vocalist Oscar Herrera's passionate interpretation of Rosenthal's romantically obsessed lyrics, Rosenthal's own moody, haunting contributions on keyboards, atmospheric instrumental pieces, and more. "Hide in Yourself," later featured on the A Teardrop Left Behind compilation, ...

Notes & Hopes
$9.85 Geoff was born and raised on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. A former journalist, he became a full-time solo musician (keyboards/ vocals) in 1988 and played extensively along the east coast of Australia and in Tasmania before heading to the USA on a songwriting trip. In 1990 he formed the trio Miasma with fellow musicians Annie and Danny Moore (formerly of the Creatures, a popular Tasmanian outfit) and the band began a six-month tour of Europe, playing venues in England, Scotland, Belgium and Spain. Miasma split in July 1992, and Geoff returned to solo performing. His first CD album, 'The Path', was recorded between 1991 and 1993 in Australia - in Hobart, Tasmania and Springbrook, Queensland - featuring producers Rob Merlini and Greg Frith and a host of top Australian session players, including saxophonist Tony Buchanan (Michael Franks, Crossfire, Little River Band). In 1993 he began work on a second studio album, 'Wait For Me' with producer Rolf Wetzel at Soundhouse Studios in Aasen, Germany. The album featured guitarist George Hutchinson (from Scottish band The Horse) and was co-produced by Don Mitchell, well-known on the London dance scene ...

| | Silas Meredith Roots CD (2006)
Notes & Hopes
$11.39 “Roots” is global roots rock at its very best: flavorful tunes with a melodic sensibility that anyone can enjoy, without forgetting the weird meters and lush chords that make music worth playing in the first place. If you filed it with your CDs of American music, you would put it right between Paul Simon, Rufus Wainwright, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, and Sting. You could listen to the whole album and never think twice about the simmering stew of musical history that “Roots” is drawn from; you would just think “Hey, these are catchy tunes!” But if you listen with a careful ear, you will hear that “The Winky Smile” and “The Wishing Well” are samba songs; that “Last Train from Grand Central” and “Puddle Jumper” are bossa nova songs; that “Good Old Days” is a soukous song patterned on Congolese star Kanda Bongo Man; you will hear that “Song for Mo” is patterned on the chimurenga style of the Zimbabwean singer Thomas Mapfumo. You will hear the roots. To make the album, Silas Meredith traveled the world looking for soul-moving melodies and rhythms. Then he came home, wrote the best 11 songs he’s ever written, played them with the most talented musicians he’s ever heard, and made the most infectious, funky, sweet, dancing, run-a-marathon, take-the-world-by-storm album that you could ever hope to hear. Silas Meredith is from Eugene, a small city in western Oregon with a thriving live music scene. He grew up listening to every kind of music imaginable. His “roots” extend beyond the pop music that filled the airways of the 80’s and 90’s: he was playing jazz in smoky barrooms before he was old enough to have a driver’s license; his parents met dancing to Balkan music in 11/8 time signature; he listened to his friends play Zimbabwean mbira growing up; his high school prom had a salsa band. When he started playing music as a kid, he chose the string bass because almost every type of musical group includes bass. Since then, he has recorded two CDs with the Oregon funk band Soul Funktion, one CD with the New England jazz combo The Jazz Aesthetic, and two CDs with the New Haven salsa band Sonido. His roots are in all of these kinds of music. Silas composes and performs songs in both Spanish and Portuguese, and has been steeped in the samba and bossa nova of Rio de Janeiro, the salsa of San Juan, Puerto Rico, the son of Havana, Cuba, as well as ...
