| | Les Hooper Out Of The Woods CD Les Hooper Discography of CDs
Les Hooper is one of the more versatile composer/pianists in Los Angeles and has done Albums, Movies, TV, live orchestral commisions, tons of commercials and he has more than 80 pieces published for big band scattered over 10 different publishers. His albums have received 7 Grammy nominations and he has performed on the Grammy Show in New York for his first album, Look What They've Done which received 3 nominations on its own. His roots are in Rhythm & Blues, Jazz and Classical and often the three are fused in a Gumbo of sorts. Raised in Louisiana, the blues/jazz roots were unavoidable. 12 years in Chicago honed his craft and spawned 3 albums of his own along with numerous arranger credits for other artists as well as an Emmy Award. In L.A. he has had 2 orchestral commissions for The New American Orchestra, made up of the best studio players in town in one glorious orchestra, and both compositions were hybrid pieces tapping into many genres. Three more big band albums and 2 small band albums added more Grammy nominations to his credit along with a host of arranging credits on other albums. "Out of the Woods" features some of the best musicians in LA. Many of these players were on the first LA albums, "Raisin the Roof" and "Anything Goes". The music is hot, fun, tight and exciting. The attempt is to create a more contemporary sounding band rather than the older standard sound of a big band. He contends that there are already many very talented musicians doing that, so why not add something a little different.Another album should be released before the end of the year.Les' other albums are available on his web site www.leshooper.com The list of players on Out of the Woods:TRUMPETS: Dan Fornero, Dennis Farias, Ron King and John FumoTROMBONES: Bruce Otto, Alex Iles, Charlie Morillas Mike MillarSAXES: Dan Higgins, Bob Sheppard, Ray Herrmann, Dave Boruff, and Don Markese (Rusty Higgins is in for Dan Higgins on some tracks)PIANO: Les Hooper GUITAR: Michael Ripoll Acoustic BASS: Tom Warrington Elect. Out Of The Woods songs
$14.65 A natural-born honky tonk genius who's had the poor fortune of being born in the wrong decade, Dale Watson is the closest thing to Merle Haggard country music has produced since the late '70s, and his rough-hewn cry-in-your-beer style is as sincere as the day is long. For his seventh studio album, Watson has teamed up with another Texan with a fondness for country & western's noble past, Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel, and though Dreamland sounds a bit more polished than Watson's best work, Benson certainly understands Watson's approach, and they make a pretty good team for these sessions. If there's a flaw in Dreamland, ...
| | Allison Tartalia Ready CD (2002)
Out Of The Woods album
$11.15 Produced by Mike McGinnis and Allison Tartalia, "Ready" is the debut album Allison's listeners have long waited for: daring, uncompromising and challenging. The ten-song collection embraces a variety of styles and subject matters. "Ready" opens with the ethnic rhythms of "Let It Go" and closes with the exquisite horn arrangements on "Advent of You." In between, she deftly fits the devastating "Tide"; "Dorothy's Reply", a funk-inspired song that uses the Wizard of Oz as a metaphor for forging a path in the music industry; ...

| | Eric Muhler Something New CD (2007)
Out Of The Woods songs
$15.15 You have to search through the modern jungle of independent recording artists to find the quietly hidden gems that designate the markers on the modern path of jazz improvisation. In this era of jazz where many are worshipping at the altar of retro, there are a few who continue to take the music in new directions and aren’t afraid to be different, innovative, and to stand apart. Into that realm jumps Eric Muhler and he not only isn’t afraid, he’s brandishing his harmonic, rhythmic and compositional variances from the norm like a finely honed sword. That sword has been sharpened with remarkable technique. Eric carries the listener down new pathways through his harmonic soundscape supported by his remarkable pianism. He whispers, shouts, builds, and flies on wings built on the traditions but reshaped with his totally unique sense of form, harmony and melody. If you want to hear swing and bop done just like the masters who innovated it forty years ago, there are thousands of qualified craftsmen and women out there doing it today. If you want to take an excursion down a very exciting and somewhat mysterious road less traveled, laden with emotion, elation, and buoyed on the springs of improvisation, then listen to Eric Muhler. His music is a product of the jazz tradition but he’s boldly personalized his art and there is much to learn from the new territory he’s explored. by Mel Pumedon Notes on the Fazioli Grand Piano and Piedmont Piano Performing SpaceIt is becoming safe to say that an intimate artist’s concert at Piedmont Piano Company’s San Francisco Performance Space is the best place in the entire Bay Area to hear any style of piano music. This is, in large part, because of the ...
| | Fluent Will To Power EP CD (2007)
Out Of The Woods album
$16.45 Fluent was raised in Maryland by two hard-working parents. At age three he wrote his first song and put it to music on a small electric piano given to him by his grandmother. From an early age Fluent was exposed to folk music and classic rock, but eventually began to aggrandize his musical interests by scanning the radios and walking daily to a local CD store. While attending elementary school he decided to peruse percussion (xylophone, timpani, drum kit etc.) and over the next five years he would compose two pieces that were performed with an ensemble. Though mostly interested in hard rock, 1994 brought about a change. “I listened to any and all genres of music, despite where my primary listening was focused. I listened to the major D.C. Rap Station (93.9 Kiss FM) every morning practically, but I was writing more rant-type songs, and playing my drum set loud and fast.” He purchased his first rap CD, Coolio’s It Takes A Thief and began to expand his CD collection in a different direction. After being asked to leave the private school he was attending, Fluent began high school in the public school system. A different world… slightly. But a different mindset… completely. In the halls of this new realm Fluent was pulled into freestyling battles. By utilizing his quick mind and already honed semantic lexicon, intact with etymological enlightenment and educated jargon, he was able to split-secondly craft rhymes that were both profoundly metaphorical and relevant. That, combined with a love for teasing motherfuckers just for the Hell of it, led to a new passion - showing that you are wack. “I am Fluent, and you are not.” he would ...
