Magda Olivero, Alvinio Misciano and Giulio Floravanti are the featured soloists in this 1961 DVD feature film of Puccini's opera. The Chorus & Orchestra of RAI Torino are conducted by Fulvio Vernizzi. The second disc features Magda Olivero in a recital of songs & arias and Olivero interview from 1963. Starring Franca Duvall as Floria Tosca, and Franco Corelli as Mario Cavaradossi, this production of writer Giangiacomo Guelfi's TOSCA was directed by Carmine Gallone. Widely regarded as the performance that made Corelli's name, he takes to the stage and delivers a hugely impressive turn, utilizing all his remarkable vocal talents to fully inhabit the role. The staging and lighting are perfect for the production, and the music of Puccini is effectively deployed throughout. Shot in 1956, this version of TOSCA has a timeless quality to it, and remains a strong favorite among fans of Corelli. The interplay between Duvall and Corelli is electric throughout, with both singers neatly captured in their finest of voices, making this a hugely valuable document for opera enthusiasts everywhere.
