This classic film was based on the real-life exploits of legendary British scholar and soldier T.E. Lawrence. Lawrence of Arabia DVD Stationed in Cairo in 1916, Lawrence languished in the mapmaking department of British Intelligence until he was asked to find and gather information on Prince Feisal, leader of the Arab Allied forces in World War I. Lawrence of Arabia movie His desert journey inspired his first military success when he led a small contingent of Arabs against the Turkish stronghold of Aqaba. Lawrence of Arabia video Lawrence's military career flourished as he attempted to forge a new, united Arab nation out of squabbling tribes.
David Lean's masterpiece, perhaps the greatest of screen epics, stars Peter O'Toole in one of the most electrifying debuts in film history Lawrence of Arabia film. The film is less an ordinary adventure than an experience that leaves an overwhelming sense memory of the struggle between two powerful forces: the Arabian deserts, immense, intractable, ever-shifting, punishing; and T.E. Lawrence, humble as a monk, flamboyant as a rock star, protean, polymathic, heroic, enigmatic, mad Lawrence of Arabia review. ...See Full Description

| essential In short, this is the greatest movie ever made. It is nearly 4 hours long, and yet that time passes in a moment and you wish there was more. There is nothing about this film that is not utterly perfect. Amazingly, it is not an exaggerated dramatization, but closely and exactly follows the true life events outlined in T.E. Lawrence's mesmerizing and poetically erudite autobiography "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom" A previous reviewer mentioned the delay at the beginning in which the screen is dark for several minutes. This is part of the film, it is the overture, several minutes of music that play while the screen is dark, just as with opera and theatre in which the orchestra plays for several minutes before the curtain rises. | Superbit wins again! Lawrence of Arabia has never looked or sounded better! Almost everyone is familiar with this award winning insight into how war affects a man's psyche but what struck me was how relevant the political aspects of Arabia seem even yet today, long after WW1 has ended. And those close ups of Peter O'Toole's expressions of joy, grief, and horror are reason enough to see this film. By the way, the color is the best yet I've seen in a transfer of this film. Go superbit! By a reviewer (Dubuque, IA) This review is for a different format. |
| Do not miss this one Lawrence of Arabia DVD Arguably the greatest epic ever made. Lawrence of Arabia movie Brilliant directing from David Lean and excellent performances from the entire cast. O’Toole was a convincing T.E. Lawrence who effectively used his facial expressions, and above all his blue eyes, to convey to the audience a wide range of mental states: confusion, internal struggle, indecisiveness, and determination. The cinematography was excellent, and so as the music score. The contrast of the desert was brought out brilliantly by Lean: from the enchanting dawn/sunrise to the murderous noon, treacherous quick sands, and blinding sandstorms. There were a couple of imperfections though. All Arab characters spoke English with accent except Auda( Anthony Quinn ), why? In the battle for Aqaba, with the camera at close range, one could see a Turkish soldier fell before the saber of the Arabic horseman stroke. Did a bullet kill the Turkish soldier or the saber? Despite these minor imperfections, Lawrence of Arabia is undoubtedly a masterpiece of masterpieces. I enjoyed it thoroughly and watched the entire movie( three and a half hours ) three times within the first ten days I bought the movie( single disc version ). Now I have purchased the 2 discs version to see how the movie was made and the short documentary of T.E. Lawrence. This is a riveting story of a fascinating man. Did he came to Arabia to fulfill his destiny, to pursue his own ambitions, or to help his country's war effort to expel the Turks from Arabia and Palestine, or to unite the feuding tribes to help form an Arab state, or all of the above? | Stunning! How can anyone possibly find fault with this movie? One outstanding scene is where one of Lawrence's cohorts is mortally wounded when a blasting cap is accidentally set off as they are preparing to to sabotage railroad tracks. Just watch O'Toole's eyes while his Arab headgear covers the rest of his face. He remains silent while his eyes simultaeneously reflect panic, anxiety, and confusion. This five-second scene defines acting genius. This is one of those films where everything clicked. The combination of script, music, dialog, acting, location, props... make this the greatest movie ever made; at least one of the top ten. Stunning. | My favorite movie. "Lawrence Of Arabia" is my favorite movie and it is one of the best movies of the 1960s. Peter O'Toole, in his Oscar-nominated role, is T.E. (Thomas Edward) Lawrence, a British officer, who led the Arabs against the Turks during World War I from 1915-18. This movie is the winner of 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture. The Limited Edition 2-disc DVD is a must for anyone who owns a DVD player. By a reviewer (United States) This review is for a different format. |
