The third solo album from South African musician Richard Wilson, ARCHIPELAGO is a collection of piano-based tracks written, arranged and produced by Richard Wilson and recorded onboard the luxury floating resort, The World, during an ocean voyage between Montreal, Canada and San Diego, USA in late 2005 and early 2006 and mastered in Cape Town, South Africa.Featuring Richard Wilson on concert grand piano, keyboards and synthesizers, Eric Sittner from Chicago on bass guitar and Anthony Coote from London on lead guitar, ARCHIPELAGO is a mix of up-tempo and laid-back tracks inspired by some of the people and places encountered on numerous ocean voyages.Although classically trained, Richard Wilson spent many years as keyboard player in numerous rock bands in South Africa involved in many recording projects released internationally before going it alone with his first solo album in the 80's.His style is a mix of classical rock and romance. $8.99 Along with the James Bond, Pink Panther, and Peter Gunn themes, the title piece of The Good, the Bad & the Ugly is arguably one of the greatest themes ever written. The entire score ties with those from Midnight Express and Blade Runner as the greatest soundtracks of all time. Many imitated the profoundly unique, deeply haunting style of composer Ennio Morricone, but none could attain his level of brilliance. ...

| | Venice In Peril Rehearsals In A Room Under Repair CD (2006)
Archipelago music CDs
$9.35 Inspired AlchemyReview: Venice In PerilRehearsals In A Room Under RepairVenice In Peril is one of the reasons I love independent music. It is elemental. At it’s best it is musicians making the music they are compelled to make without any promise of reward beyond self-expression. Sometimes musical exploration. Venice In Peril explores. If Venice In Peril’s first CD, ‘In A Year Of 13 Moons’, was like a good first date for me, and it was, (it was compositionally and musically awesome), this CD puts their number in my speed dial.‘Rehearsals In A Room Under Repair’ is an infectious, muscular, aural feast. Venice In Peril are multi-instrumentalists, songwriters, Valcruz Shekiri and Christopher Martin, who comprise a two-man studio band. Demonstrably gifted as musicians, and startling as lyricist and groove-smiths with voices which are worn and lived in. They have the most original sound and style I have heard in many a moon. If this CD were being issued, with a push, by a major label it would go platinum. There is no song less than striking. The mastery of mood this band displayed on their first effort is still evident. They do not play live, which limits their music’s exposure, and that is really too bad because they are more than deserving of attention. Theirs is an easy energy and honesty. That combination once fueled my generation.I called ‘In A Year Of 13 Moons’ genre defying; with this release I stand corrected. This band doesn’t so much defy genre as play within so many different ones with such effortless ease they transcend them all.Listening to this CD is like listening to two journeymen who have listened to everyone without sounding like anyone. Not a small feat. This CD is inspired alchemy.Venice In Peril is a smart, grown up band. I can name parallels but no comparisons. This is a twelve song CD as opposed to eighteen on their first, but it is a full set. Beginning with the cryptic opener, ‘Come On’ which swirls hypnotically with lyrics like a fairy tale and a musical promise they actually deliver on. The second song ups the ante. The fusion-blues ‘Willow Tree’. Call and response twisted as no one, apparently, but this band, would have thought of. The CD closes with a waltz, which sounds to me like an instant standard, ‘ For All The Annettes’. This CD is a musical adventure. I loved the journey.I hope there is a third installment. So should you.DocRock (Music critic/Producer)This CD is off the hook crazy cool and wicked sweet.Justin Z (Consumer review)It came today. The only place to play it is on the computer and would you believe this ..... customers come in and INTERRUPT my listening. The nerve of some people!I have listened a couple of times. I will listen much more. But for now let me say this. I LOVE your CD. Absolutely love it! The more I listen the more I pick up. Every song is great. Faves so far are: Come ...

$13.69 Formed from the ashes of W.A.D. by founders Erich Tran (guitar), Joe Shields (bass), and Sol Bales (vocals), Only set out with a new mission and focus: concise, hook-filled songs, with an emphasis on a high-energy live show, both visually and sonically compelling. Drawing from influences ranging from alternative metal to early punk/hardcore, with a healthy dose of 80's rock bombast, Only forged a unique, modern sound, represented by two early EP's: 2002's Self-Titled and 2004's "Apparitions". Only expanded and solidified their lineup with the addition of rhythm guitarist Mark Reinking, in late 2003, and drummer Celestino "Sal" Ramirez, in 2005. The band has gigged regularly ...
