| | Roger Brewer Five Weeks East CD Roger Brewer Discography of CDs
Roger Brewer has been composing music for more than twenty years, from his ground-breaking work in the 1980's and his collaboration's with Brian Smith, through to 'Five Weeks East' his most recent recording. Five Weeks East is a two CD set, with a running time of more than 110 minute's, truly a tour de force. It's a monumental work of multiple synthesizer arrangements and outstanding melodies, inspired by a journey through the Far East. The balance of the sounds and the stereo soundscape is quite unique, defined by Roger's 'Edge Of Perception' mixing techniques. Right from the very start(from the background of voices and ambient noise), you descend into the Hong Kong environment - where the 'Star Ferry' chugs across the harbour. A pulse that marks the beginning of 'Star Ferry', transforms into a driving string sequence underpinned with lively bass & drums, seconds later the lead line leaves you in no doubt that you are indeed, travelling on the Star Ferry. The piece evolves, pulsates and shifts gear into tuneful motifs with overlying rhythms that urge you to accompany the music on its journey. Throughout the twenty distinctive pieces on these two CD's there is a constant but subtle underlying theme of travel throughout Hong Kong and the Philippines, the music is well structured and melodic. The instrument sounds and musical sequences are, quite frankly, breathtaking. Roger Brewer Five Weeks East Songs | 1. | Touchdown |

| | Sandbox Trio Urubamba CD (2004)
Five Weeks East album
$16.45 The final studio recordings of sandbox trio find the band exploring territories only hinted at by their previous releases.Urubamba begins with the familiar - a classical guitar gently invoking the Amazonian river of the CD's title. As the journey continues, listeners are quickly introduced to the sounds of a place they have never been - or imagined existed. Navigating through unexpected currents, exotic homemade instruments - pvc saxophone, electric erhu, wood box, thwackoleum - give voice to the strange inhabitants of the river. Darkly organic and industrial, this hour-long collection invites the mind to create, reflect, and meditate - a brillant conclusion to the band's body of work. sandbox trio is:Martin Birke - octapad, percussion, drum kit, keyboardChuck Ehlis - lap steel guitar, fretless bass, thwackoleum, loops, tapesDaniel Panasenko - classical & prepared guitars, pvc saxophone, electric erhu, clay flute, percussionSound And Noise Dictated By Ongoing eXperimentation - one of the mantras used by sandbox trio - described perfectly the inspiration and intent of the group. Brought together in 1992 by the common desire to explore new possibilities of music-making, the band's three members - Martin Birke, Chuck Ehlis, and Daniel Panasenko - initially used traditional instruments but quickly incorporated new ones designed and built by Ehlis. The group went on to perform and record for the next eight years until Chuck's death in January 2000. After three CDs and two film scores, the band made its final appearance during their 1998 tour of Germany. The final studio ...
