Closed Captioned; Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; Soundtrack French Though it was only a mild success upon its release in 1974, the original BLACK CHRISTMAS (directed by Bob Clark, who would go on to direct A CHRISTMAS STORY in 1984) has become a cult favorite among horror buffs since the dawn of the home-video era. An early example of the "body count" genre, the film also predates WHEN A STRANGER CALLS (1979) in its use of a killer making threatening phone calls that originate within his potential victims' own house. In this remake, writer/director Glen Morgan takes the basics of Roy Moore's screenplay for the original to create an elaborate and almost comically disturbing back story for Billy, the killer who previously remained a mystery. A handful of sorority girls remain at the house after the school shuts down for Christmas break. An ominous snowstorm blows in, isolating them. At the same time, a killer--who in this version escapes from a mental institution to return to his former family home--breaks into the attic and begins making terrifying phone calls to the girls (led by Kate Cassidy, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Lacey Chabert) before killing them off one by one. SCTV veteran Andrea Martin, who portrayed a victim in the original, returns as Ms. Mac, the house mother.
Stylistically, Moore's remake avoids casting the film in the ironic post-SCREAM or streamlined, gore-free Japanese-horror-inspired fright films of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Instead he makes BLACK CHRISTMAS in the style of a wet and red '80s slasher film. The plentiful blood and guts will please fans of that era, as will tributes to the HALLOWEEN films. This, along with a soundtrack that eschews holiday standards in favor of modern pop music, plus a dim lighting scheme that relies heavily on colored Christmas bulbs, combine to create an atmosphere of holiday dread in this fun update of what has become a horror classic. Utter garbage The makers of this BLACK CHRISTMAS remake seem to take everything that made the original a masterpiece and do the EXACT OPPOSITE!! Just when I thought the mainstream horror industry could not get anyworse, here comes this nearly unwatchable piece of trash. Substituting mindless gore and brainless bimboes for genuine suspense and 3-dimensional characters, BLACK CHRISTMAS will, sadly, be a huge hit and spawn a never-ending franchise of even worse sequels. Ho ho ho, indeed. Submitted by PatrickTheRedMenace (New York. NY) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 2 found this helpful. This review is for a different format.
Ho Ho Hoes is right.. If you're looking for a suspenseful remake of Bob Clark's 1974 holiday-themed stalker flick that improves upon every single facet of the original, check your local video store..it's called Halloween!!
However, if you're quite happy with the cheese factor of the original tale of potty-mouthed college girls menaced by a maniac on Christmas Eve, but wish it had evinced less acting talent and a whole lot more blood, guts, incest and vomiting, then, Black Christmas is the way to go.
Let's be clear: The remake of Black Christmas isn't in any way scary, realistic or well acted, but Morgan, who cocreated the Final Destination series, knows how to stage an elaborate kill for laughs, and there's at least one "involving Christmas cookies" that'll sear itself into your mind. It is a by the numbers slasher flick. It’s as stripped down and efficient a blood spilling machine as I’ve seen. That doesn’t mean it’s scary, or good for that matter. The women walk around the house and get killed. That’s all there is to it. It has a couple of decent gore scenes so it’s not totally worthless. It moved right along and kept the blood flowing. If you’re in need of a slasher movie fix, “Black Christmas” may be worth a rental. But if your need for bloody slasher mayhem isn’t desperate, I’d let this one go.

FUNNY Most of this movie was funny except for the end but the only reason i gave it 3 stars is because the girls that played in it were fine Submitted by PSYCHOCPAX3818 (CanogaParque, CA , USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 0 of 2 found this helpful. This review is for a different format.

Black Christmas film
$12.85 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar ...

$14.45 Though it's spawned a handful of sequels, it took more than 30 years for Tobe Hooper's ever-potent horror classic to get an "origin" story. Why is Leatherface so angry? Whose face does he wear as a mask? How did his family get their taste for human flesh? A 2003 remake revisited the original film, painted with post-millenial gloss by former music video director Marcus Nispel. For his second feature, director Jonathan Liebesman (DARKNESS FALLS) follows suit, though wisely eliminating the heavy rock soundtrack of the remake.
The film opens with the 1949 birth of the child who would become Leatherface--to an obese slaughterhouse worker. She dies during childbirth and the deformed baby is later found in a dumpster by his adoptive mother. Twenty years later, Chrissy (Jordana ...
