| | Jason Michael Thomas Once Upon A Girl CD Jason Michael Thomas Discography of CDs
“The art of songwriting should not be reduced to least common denominators and mediocrity.”Hallelujah, brother. That’s Jason Michael Thomas, Indianapolis singer-songwriter, with his debut solo EP, Once Upon a Girl. Perhaps he looks familiar to you, or you’d swear you’d heard that voice before. If you’re from the Midwest, you might know Jason from his work fronting the originals ’n’ covers band X-Ray Roger Jimmy. If you’re reading this, more than likely you hold in your hand said debut EP. Say it with me: Once Upon a Girl. Rolls nicely off the tongue, doesn’t it? Clever, thoughtful, but not over the top. These six songs are the kinds you can sink your teeth into, sing along and relate to. They’re songs about falling in love, growing with love, moving beyond love. They’re songs of optimism and realism. They’re songs that speak to people like us.As for Jason, music’s in his blood. One of his earliest musical memories is of his grandfather—a bandleader back in the days of the Rat Pack—showing him jazz chords on the piano. At an early age, young Jason joined the boys’ choir and began taking piano lessons. He’s been in theater productions and films—experience which shows in his relaxed stage presence and composure. But it’s the music you’re interested in, am I right? If you must categorize, Jason writes melodic rock music—but it’s so much more than that. His voice is soulful and rich, his guitar work intricate and creative, his lyrics passionate and heartfelt. In short, he’s the whole package. With Once Upon a Girl, Jason’s moved himself six steps closer toward his ultimate goal: In his words, “To write, record and perform as many songs as I can before I die.” Life’s short, my friends—listen deeply. Once Upon A Girl
$6.69 The fast paced, digital world of the 21st century has ushered in many a new way for people to enjoy music. Technology is grand but back in vinyl days, like so many other things, even the experience of music was simpler. People would plug in a pair of headsets and spin the wax while lying on the floor lost in artwork, liner notes, and of course, the music. Or they might call their friends to come over and just crank it up. Either way, entire albums were heard. Records were listened to front to back and every song was given a chance. Fast forward and rewind were not options on vinyl records. Because of this, fans would find the gems and often the heart and soul of these albums in songs that are referred to as album cuts.Pablo and Mary’s Dance invites you back to those long gone-by days. Like so many records that used to be produced regularly, this is a concept album that tells a story, a tumultuous tale of two lovers who seem to be living and dying simultaneously, but with an ultimate message of hope and redemption prevailing. This musical ride will offer the listener various musical styles from rock to blues to gospel and swing. Each song represents a moment in time- a chapter in the lives of Pablo and Mary. All of these chapters are musically connected by a hauntingly beautiful melody that like a thread is woven throughout the CD leading the listener from one chapter to the next. Pablo & Mary’s Dance was lovingly created over the course of two years in the basement studio of writer, guitarist, vocalist, bassist and engineer Tim Quire. Many friends lent hands and hearts to bring this project to life creatively but ultimately it was Quire’s own vision that birthed and raised this child. Over these two years Quire saw not only his creative body of work expand but also his guitar collection! Listeners will certainly hear that guitar collection at work on this creative, dynamic piece. So please… allow yourself to enjoy a genuine experience- the epic story ...

Once Upon A Girl
$16.45 I remember flying down the road in a car with a friend after soccer practice in tenth grade, blasting the classic tune “Song For The Dumped” by Ben Folds Five. I recall thinking of the utter disregard this band had for the health of their piano, hearing it get beaten and smashed in such an artful way over the course of the song. I went home after that and sat down at my piano. I had played for over ten years previous to that, and I hated every minute of it, but now something made me see it in a different way. I learned how to play the piano so that all the elderly people in the room got angry at me for playing too loud, saying, “You’re going to break the paino!!” I learned to take that as a compliment.John moved into town in 2nd grade. He started to learn bass in middle school, and the combination of living in a small town and most people preferring to learn guitar over bass, he was asked to play with a lot of different people. He grew into this bass so like it was another part of his body. We started playing together and found that our styles, though different, matched better than we could have dreamed.Mark’s drumming ability was young when he joined us. John and I would encourage him to explore his kit, and not just do what he thought he should do, or what he thought we thought he should do. Taking this into consideration, he found this own style in comparison with us. Inspired from his influences, he soon figured ...
| | Pete Simpson Guitars Are People Too CD (2007)
Once Upon A Girl
$16.45 "Guitars are people too" is Pete’s second CD and was released in March 2006. This CD sees Pete embracing many subjects close to his heart. The songs are all beautifully written both lyrically and musically and show Pete growing in both song craftsmanship and technical ability.Pete was born in Peterborough, England in 1958 and still lives in the area. His interest in music was severely dampened by school music lessons "I had the worst teacher in the world, sadistic and disinterested" recalls Pete. Then a classmate brought in an acoustic guitar and, once he'd had a taste of what could be done, he was hooked. Pete's brother John, had a few albums by Wishbone Ash, Yes and Black Sabbath but on hearing “Battle of Evermore”, “Stairway to Heaven” and a live version of “Mistreated” on an old valve radio, he knew this was something he had to do. The passion and energy of bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who and Deep Purple got into his blood. Pete's parents bought him an electric guitar, John rigged it up to the aforementioned valve radio, and he was away. He soon had his mates round banging home brew bins and making, it has to be said, a bit of a racket. He began coming up with ideas and was convinced they were the most original thing ever. In reality, as you'd expect, Pete's early material was rather naive, but the thrill of a song 'coming together' soon became addictive and no amount of effort was too much. He soon had a well-loved collection of guitars, a tape recorder and a dream that, given the right conditions, ...
