Brooklyn songwriter Stephen Lipuma's latest musical incarnation begins with the inception of The Exeter Popes this past winter. Lipuma's songs distill his most cherished influences - The Smiths, The Cocteau Twins, The Pastels - by utilizing a unique strum and bash guitar-playing style, coupled with quirky rhythmic dynamics, creating a sound all its own. With a White Shoe Records release of the their debut EP in Spring of 2006 receiving both critical and community acclaim, Stephen returned to the studio in the summer, this time with fellow Brooklynite and producer Greg Hoy (The Last Town Chorus, Snob Hill, Americans). With Hoyengineering and producing the sessions at his Blue Door Studios in addition to performing drumming duties, the duo got to work. Quickly inspired and meticulously mixed and arranged, 'Snow, Mountain, Geisha' contains five of the dozen songs sprouted during this period, further building on the daydream-promise of the first EP. Stephen, looking to further expand the band's sound, turned to his friends for help. A chance re-connection with bassist and kindred spirit Michael Figgiani, a prominent figure in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn's bar and restaurant scene; a fateful introduction to keyboard player and percussionist, Becky Cousins, fresh off a hippie commune, also assumed the role as the band's undisputed ambassador to the next world's love, peace and harmony movement - completed with Greg staying on, keeping precise and deliberate time on the drums. What has emerged is a band best described as the Carpenters for the new age. The band will return to Blue Door Studios to begin work on a full-length in early 2007. Look out for their second release on White Shoe Records entitled Snow, Mountain, Geisha due out in January 2007. Notable for being the final Saint Vitus studio album to feature vocalist Scott "Wino" Weinrich, as well as the band's first recorded for a label other than career-long home base SST, 1989's simply named V was, in most other respects, a typical effort by the long suffering doom metal icons. In other words, much like all of the band's similarly "against the grain" output, its post-Sabbath acid-doom dirges and fuss-free underground metal aesthetics held absolutely zero commercial potential in a fluffy and appearance-obsessed decade like the 1980s. Becoming a friend of Michael Ross was without a doubt a plus for me. Michael was writing and producing Three's Company when we met. I have many years of on stage experience. I was asked by Michael Ross to come to a taping of the show, and if I was interested Mr. Ross promsed to give me a small part. This lead to my continued appearances in several shows.I have been in concert, and shared the stage with the late Danny Thomas, Tony Orlando and Dawn, the Temptations,Guns and Roses, Billy Davis and Marilyn Mcoo, Garcia and the Grateful Dead, and Mary Wilson of the Supremes to name a few. I am delighted to be a part of CDBABY. This singer-songwriter recording artist has been writing and performing his original compostions for as long as he can remember, and receiving vast acceptance ever since. Keith was one of the lead singers of a well known group called "The Belverderes". His part as a group member was to do the lead on all songs that required experienced, strong,clear vocal range, performing songs by "The Temps, Gladys Knight adn the Pips" Smokey Robinson, and yes even the songs of the Lady herself, Barbara Streisand. Although known for his lady killing movements on stage, his most outstanding assest is his incredible, extraodinary vocal range. Keith prefers to have his vocals out front as he does not and never did require any kind of musical assistance to enhance or help his vocals in any way.
