| | Steve Rochinski Quartet Until Further Notice... CD (1994)
Prelude songs
$17.09 Although not well known nationally, Steve Rochinski is someone who has commanded respect on the Boston jazz scene. Forming a quartet with pianist Tony Germain, bassist Barry Smith, and drummer John Ramsay, Rochinski emphasizes his own compositions on Until Further Notice..., his first album as a leader. Because Rochinski studied guitar with Tal Farlow, some jazz enthusiasts might expect his playing to be more Farlow-ish. But Rochinski isn't as accessible or as lyrical a guitarist as Farlow. He's much more angular, and complex originals like "A Simple Derivative" and "Spleetus and the Yope-Yope Man" reflect his admiration for Thelonious Monk as well as the underrated piano master Herbie Nichols. Because Rochinski's playing and writing are as angular and intellectual as they are, listeners may not be able to fully absorb Until Further Notice... on the first listen. But those with a taste for the cerebral will find that this decent CD has a way of growing on them. ~ Alex Henderson

In 1995, Steve released his critically acclaimed debut CD Until Further Notice (LineOut Music/North Country Dist.). He currently records for Jardis Records, Germany's leading jazz ...

Prelude music CDs
$14.25 Indie/alt-country songwriter-goddess Neko Case is nothing if not a chameleon, capable of wrapping herself around soulful twang, snotty 'tude, or bouyant teen energy. But if there's a thread running through her work, it's her undeniable magnetism as a poet. And on CYCLONE, by fully embracing the theme of love for the first time in her career, she transforms herself into an almost mystically insightful weaver of romantic imagery. On "Polar Nettles" ...
