Standard Screen; Soundtrack English All that a poor short-order cook would like is the love of a waitress who has won his heart. Only it seems she's not interested. Just as he has abandoned all hope and is ready to end his life, in steps a man with the innocent-sounding name of George Spiggot...but who is better known by such other monikers as Lucifer, Mephistopheles, and the Devil. George has an offer too good to refuse: He's ready to grant seven wishes. And all he wants in return is the cook's soul.... Starring the comedy team of Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, BEDAZZLED puts a comic and sacrilegious twist on the Faust legend when a short-order cook named Stanley (Moore) who is in love with an oblivious waitress agrees to give his soul to the devil (Cook) in exchange for seven wishes. But the devil has a warped sense of humor, and Stanley's wishes never turn out the way he expects. As his chance to win the waitress's heart seems to recede further and further away, Stanley's wishes become stranger and more desperate.
Though one of many comic films based on Faust, BEDAZZLED stands head and shoulders above the rest with its witty and intelligent screenplay by Peter Cook, hilarious performances by Moore and Cook that demonstrate just why they were such a marvelous comic duo, and the light but keen touch of director Stanley Donen. BEDAZZLED was the first movie that Dudley Moore composed music for; he later became the composer for five more films.
The film was remade in 2000 starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. Stanley Donen's Bedazzled Reviews: "BEDAZZLED remains fresh and funny, with some sharply observed set pieces."
-- Ronnie Hackston, Sight and Sound "It's Pete 'n' Dud's most perfectly realised project....BEDAZZLED is Bron's movie as much as Cook and Moore's. Nobody does gauche and gormless better."
-- Rob Chapman, Uncut "Cook's amusing script and Moore's lively score distinguish the [film]..."-- Nicola Salvage, Film Comment "Balancing zany high jinks and deadpan genius, this BEDAZZLED bests its 2000 remake..." -- Grade: B+-- Sean Howe, Entertainment Weekly "Mr. Cook, who wrote the screenplay, endlessly spouts quotable lines with a dry, absurdist quality that clearly left an impression on the up-and-coming humorists who later became the Monty Python troupe."-- Dave Kehr, New York Times 3 stars out of 4 -- "Faust blends with burgers in the twisted morality tale....[This is the superior original..."-- Mike Clark, USA Today

Stanley Donen's Bedazzled Movie Review Very clever, true art This is an example of great comedy that rivals that of the Monty Python movies! Clever, well written, great music. I wish it were on DVD! "I'm Bedazzled...." Very funny movie from Dudley Moore and Peter Cook. It involves Stanley who is a short order cook, and longs after the pretty waitress at the diner he works at. He can never seem to get up the nerve to ask her out on a date, so depressed, he tries to do himself in...which he also fails at. Long story short, George Spiggot (the devil) drops by, and offers him 7 wishes in exchange for his soul. What follows is Stanley's attempts at wishing for a happy life...with his dream girl. Only there is always a "catch" with each wish.
Racquel Welch appears also as "Lillian Lust", one of Spiggot's "associates". The story was written by Dudley Moore and Peter Cook, the screenplay was written by Peter Cook, and the fabulous music score was written, arranged, conducted and performed by Dudley Moore.
Many people will make the comparison between this orginal version, and the 2000 re-make with Elizabeth Hurley. They are both good in their own, the difference being the eras in which they were made. The stories are tailored for the era, and that is a good thing. Fans of this version should also enjoy the new one, and vice versa.
Hope this one makes it to DVD soon in widescreen.

Pete & Dud at their Best A cracking film. Half extended Pete & Dud sketch show, half true saucy British 60s comedy film. The pair are excellent and Bron is hilarious. Submitted by a reviewer (London) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No This review is for a different format.

$22.09 Amos Gitai paints a vivid, gritty portrait of life in modern-day Israel with this multi-character study of intertwining lives in and around a Tel Aviv apartment complex. Ezra (Uri Klauzner) is a building contractor who sleeps in his van with his illegal Asian immigrant workers outside his ex-wife Mali's (Hanna Laslo) door while building an extension to the building, much to the annoyance of the elderly residents, one of whom is a concentration camp survivor. Meanwhile, the son of Ezra and Mali, Eyali (Amit Mestechkin) runs away from his mandatory stint in the Israeli army and Mali's friend, the beautiful, troubled Gabi (Yael Abecassis) ...

$16.09 The early 1990s saw "lad" culture filtering into the mainstream in the U.K., with magazines such as Maxim and Loaded presenting bawdy, risqué accounts of the activities of the modern male. Bands such as Oasis attained huge success, with charismatic singer Liam Gallagher perhaps typifying the proper cheeky behavior. Television wasn't immune ...
