(4 Customer Reviews)
On 2007's RESURRECTION, Chimaira's first outing for the Ferret Music label, the Cleveland-based metalcore ensemble unleashes another barrage of unapologetically aggressive songs. Fronted by sandpaper-voiced singer Mark Hunter, the group, named after a monstrous creature from Greek mythology, displays a strong death-metal influence on these apocalyptic tracks, as best revealed on the pummeling, doom-laden title track.

Alternative Press (p.138) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Chimaira deliver a huge album chock full of false harmonic squeals, pummeling double-time kick-drums and Mark Hunter's patented roar on RESURRECTION." Kerrang (Magazine) (p.46) - "[T]hey've never sounded quite so astonishingly powerful as this....The invigorating sound of a band reborn." Resurrection Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) great record but didnt blow me away The songs on this one are brutal and merciless, flowing into each other without any seams. The soundscape is also quite expansive and really adds dimension to their dominating riffage. But to me the self title still stands out higher than this one. The tracks are much more memorable and despite the fact there is more singing on this, the last one seemed more musical. I feel the drum work is more interesting, too. You could hear that they had something to prove, whereas on this one they are just out to kick your ass. But we all love that now, don't we? Needle really gets that job done. One thing about this record is that it is not conceptually as cohesive as it could have been. I really don't get why there is an alien on the cover, though each song has some sort of beast that has to be struggled and reconciled with. Perhaps that is what it represents. (But come on, the last record cover was an undead Chimaira! That's king.) I was also a little miffed that 2 tracks didnt make the record that are actually pretty awesome, but I agree that they may have not fit with the rest of the record. Good job guys! Free at Last!! Chimaira has changed their sound quite a bit. I'd say for the better. In 2002, they were pretty much borderline nu-metal. This cd starts off with title track, "Resurrection", which is simply mind blowing. This makes a great song to get pumped up and ready for the day to. My personal favorite track on the cd is "The Flame". The lyrics are serious and brutal. It's a must hear. I would definetly check this album out if you haven't already. Resurrection
$14.49 "Nothing Remains" takes harmonic cues from Scandinavian black metal, delivering horror-movie-worthy chord progressions with a speed and drive equal to the most mind-numbing industrial beats. "Left for Dead" opens with military-style snare drum rudiments before bursting into a scathing denunciation of greed that recalls early Metallica. Though Chimaira's electronic elements are more subtle than on previous albums, well-placed sound effects add to the record's intense spookiness, particularly on the epic seven-and-a-half minute closer "Lazarus," a chilling, yet strangely sensitive, narrative about a friend's suicide.
The follow-up to the hit album THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF REASON, Chimaira's self-titled third CD continues the group's quest to become the most pummeling, no-frills, downright scary metalcore band on the planet. With the addition of new drummer Kevin Talley, who adds an even greater degree of rhythmic precision and aggression, Chimaira further refines its unique combination of old-school thrash and modern death metal. "Nothing Remains" takes ...
| | Barney Kessel Breakfast At Tiffany's/Bossa Nova/Contemporary Latin Rhythms CDs (2002)
Resurrection
$12.29 Conte Candoli (trumpet); Victor Feldman (vibraphone); Emil Richards (marimba); Keith Mitchell (bass); Earl Palmer, Stan Levey (drums).
Originally released on Reprise (6019), Reprise (6049) & Reprise (6073).
This double CD is more about Barney Kessel the studio player than Kessel the jazz guitar legend. Still, this compilation of three LPs originally released between 1961-1963 has some good music, and Kessel the jazz man is not entirely absent, even though the settings do not call for him to stretch out.
Breakfast at Tiffany's is Kessel's handling of Henry Mancini's music from the classic Blake Edwards film with Audrey Hepburn. With a number entitled "Moon River Cha Cha," listeners pretty much know what's in store for them with this set: instrumental treatments of pop music that was riding high both on the airwaves and on the big screen. The tracks are brief and the playing doesn't stray far from the arrangements. ...

Resurrection
$18.99 The Say Thank You CD produced by Eddie Thrash, executive producer Jacqueline Thrash and production assistant Jennifer Thrash. The Say Thank You was designed to be an introduction to a chronicle of 100 years of music. It starts out with a cover of Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer", which has been heard in the movie with Paul Newman and Robert Redford 'The Sting'.The Entertainer was published in 1904.Eddie Thrash brought The Entertainer into the current day by writing lyrics for it, including the phrase which describes Eddie's style and the flavor of Say Thank You, "A Lit'l Bit of Blues, A Lit'l Bit of Soul, and A Lit'l Bit of Jazz and Rock & Roll".Say Thank You goes from Ragtime from 1904, through Gospel (You Are So Beautiful), through Folk (Your Smiling Face), through light Rock, Latin Jazz and Blues (Two More Hearts), and jumps with both feet into Rock & Roll (Life in the Fast Lane). It is meant as a means to Say Thank You to all those before us, who have made American music what it is today; as well as to Say Thank You to those who have encouraged not only Eddie & Jacqueline, personally, but other artists and inventors who have struggled to make a difference, and who have needed someone to say, "it's okay, keep up the struggle and the good work, we need what you have to give".Thank You.Quotes about Eddie and his music:The first time I saw Eddie Thrash play (guitar) was in a small Blues club across from San Francisco State University, and my mouth fell open. J.B.Listening to Eddie Thrash's CD made me enjoy the beautiful song of the guitar. It was very calm and soothing to listen to. I hope, one day, the CD is everywhere.
