VILE is Cannibal Corpse's first record with singer George Fisher, who replaced Chris Barnes.
Death metal wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Buffalo's Cannibal Corpse, one of the most musically brutal and lyrically extreme metal acts ever. The band's 1996 album, VILE--a landmark in the genre, as it was the first death metal album to hit the Billboard charts--gets the deluxe reissue treatment here in celebration of Metal Blade Records' 25th anniversary. In addition to the digitally remastered original album--which, decades later, still shocks with its pummeling riffs, blast beats, scorched-earth vocals, and disgustingly gory lyrics (see "Orgasm Through Torture")--the package also contains an 18-track live DVD and expanded liner notes.
Recorded at Morrisound Recording, Tampa, Florida.
Cannibal Corpse: George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher (vocals); Jack Owen, Rob Barrett (guitar); Alex Webster (bass); Paul Mazurkiewicz (drums).

Vile album
$9.79 Released in 1992, Tomb of the Mutilated helped establish Cannibal Corpse's reputation as one of metal's goriest, most vile outfits. Boasting some of the sickest album art and song titles of all time, the band's attention-getting tactics worked perfectly and record sales soared. Cannibal Corpse then became one of the biggest names in the death metal genre -- just as the group's discs and live performances were being banned all over the world. Listeners unfamiliar with the belching vocal style and pummeling drum and guitar attack typical of death metal probably won't understand what separates this or any ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Gallery Of Suicide CD (1998)
Vile CD music
$9.79 Cannibal Corpse settled into their own gruesome groove early on in their career, spitting out a predictable set of carnage-obsessed trash-rockers on each of their albums. Consequently, their albums can be a little interchangeable, and Gallery of Suicide -- the group's sixth album -- is no different. From the titles ("Disposal of the Body," "Blood Drenched Execution," "Dismembered and Molested," "Stabbed in the Throat," "Centuries of Torment," "Crushing the Despised," "I Will Kill You") to the incessant, buzzing guitars, ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Butchered At Birth CD (1991) Bonus Tracks; Enhanced CD
Vile music CDs
$9.69 In the early '90s, Cannibal Corpse acquired a small cult in the death metal underground by embracing some of the most gruesome lyrics the subgenre had to offer. Thriving on shock value, the band inspires comparisons to GWAR and comes across as a parody of death metal and grindcore more than anything. Like its previous album, the ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Wretched Spawn CD (2004) With DVD
Vile songs
$9.79 For album number nine, Wretched Spawn, Cannibal Corpse continue on with much the same style of gore-themed death metal that had made them a mainstay of the stateside scene for a decade-and-a-half. Bassist Alex Webster and guitarist Jack Owen write most of the songs here, respectively, and those songs are pretty much what you've come to expect from Cannibal Corpse by this point -- musically pulverizing and lyrically unsettling. Vocalist George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher is as unrelenting as usual, especially on such songs as "Frantic Disembowelment," where he switches from growling to screaming with seeming ease. Wretched Spawn is overall a pretty brief album, clocking in just under 45 minutes, as few of the 13 songs break the four-minute mark. The title track is an exception, as are the lumbering "Festering in the Crypt" and the thrashing album-closer, "They Deserve to Die" -- these three longer songs being some of the more interesting ones here, given their unique characteristics. Most of the others are rather straight-ahead death metal blasts, and while they're on the mark stylistically, they may seem a bit workmanlike to longtime fans who have heard all this before. ...
| | Cannibal Corpse Kill CD (2006)
Vile album
$11.39 One of the most infamous and censored death metal bands ever, Cannibal Corpse celebrates their 10th album with one titular sentiment: KILL. That's pretty much what it does, too. KILL reminds us who put the death in death metal, combining relentless and intense sounds with lyrics that couple Grand Guignol thrills with slasher-film imagery. Wiry, almost progressive time and tempo shifts choke out the intense riffage and bend it into dramatic extremes, as evidenced on "Five Nails in ...

| | Type O Negative October Rust CD (1996)
Vile music CDs
$13.89 Peter Steele predicted that the follow-up to Bloody Kisses would accentuate Type O Negative's melodic side, specifically for the purpose of making money. Steele's attempt at "pop-goth" actually works well for a while; his cynical take on goth rock's typical subject matter is in full swing over the first half of October Rust, and the band gleefully wallows in its stated commercialism by personally thanking the listener for purchasing the album at its start and finish. Unfortunately, the songwriting runs out of steam over the second half, and ...

| | Premonitions Of War True Face Of Panic CD (2002)
Vile CD music
$8.35 Premonitions of War may have one foot in hardcore punk, but they're really a grindcore band. "Relentless" is the operative word. The True Face of Panic begins as a brawl, an immediately pummeling takedown. The title track occasionally comes up for air in half-time, but repeatedly succumbs to fisticuffs. ...
| | Judah Johnson Kisses And Interrogation CD (2003)
Vile music CDs
$11.39 The contemplative soul of Michigan's Judah Johnson oozes cleanly throughout Kisses and Interrogation, the quartet's debut full-length. Having survived various lineup changes in the years preceding the album's release, Daniel Johnson, the band's leader in more than just vocals and guitar, spurred the band on to release the result of its tumultuous and passionate brief history. Recording the album in Detroit and Owosso, MI, the group was bolstered by the addition of bassist Rodrigo Palma and keyboardist Steven Nistor. Charles Koltak continued to serve as the rhythmic backbone of the band on drums. Opening with the ambient and soulful instrumental "Look at My Hands," the band then dives into the live favorite "Vegas Revisited," where the listener first hears Johnson's effortlessly clean vocals whisper over an increasingly fiery musical backdrop. What follows is a roller coaster of emotions and musical approaches, from the calm and serene grace of "Consolation" to the brief experimental grace of "Wolf Pics I" to the clattering charm of "Signs Subliminal." Although officially out of the band, ex-keyboardist Nate Cavalieri appears on four of the disc's 15 tracks. His feisty organ on "The Great Humanitarian" livens the feel of the disc midway through, while the blistering "In the Can" is quite possibly the hardest and most visceral track of the early part of the band's career. It is followed by "Made for Greatness," one of Johnson's ...
