| | Om: Miami 2007 CD (1 Customer Review)
Om Records, a San Francisco-based label that has been working very hard the past few years on making itself one of the more respected names in electronica (and even hip-hop, having signed backpackers Strange Fruit Project and Zion I and the Grouch recently), released the second volume of its Om: Miami series in 2007. The compilation follows in the path of its 2006 predecessor, taking house and house-inspired cuts from artists like Greenskeepers, Chuck Love, and Samantha James, as well as remixes from Fred Everything, Trevor Loveys, and Johnny Fiasco. It claims to be for "all types of electronic music enthusiasts," which isn't exactly true -- anyone looking for techno or Microsound or breakbeat is going to be disappointed -- but Om: Miami 2007 is still a good collection of quality house nonetheless. ~ Marisa Brown

Om: Miami 2007
$9.09 Someone at Sony must have a serious love of dance music, because it's hard to believe this sprawling, hard to figure out compilation was conceived by the marketing department. There are some big names on Everybody Dance Now! Remixed, Remodeled & Remade but a heck of a lot of little ones, and some that'll only ring bells for club historians with a taste for the mainstream. The big names aren't always represented by the big hits, either, but who'd expect to have so many hard-to-finds in one place? If you've been searching for the "Soul Solution Vocal Dub" of Cyndi Lauper's "Ballad of Cleo & Joe" or the "Stephen Nikolas Club Mix" of the Indigo Girls' "Shed Your Skin," they're here, and that means the world to someone. Plenty of the tracks sound horribly dated, but the set is priced right and you don't have to spend a ton of money on eBay to find out that "Rushdance" by Big Audio Dynamite II is lackluster. Camp fanatics can have a ton of fun with Sandra Bernhard's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" and the 2000 update of Europe's "The Final Countdown," while more serious clubbers will appreciate the collection favoring ...

Om: Miami 2007
$15.25 JUSTIFIED won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. The album was also nominated for Album Of The Year. "Cry Me A River" won for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
JUSTIFIED may represent Justin Timberlake's attempt to break out of the boy band mold and be taken seriously as a musician, but N Sync and, more specifically, ex-beau Britney Spears continue to serve as red flag reminders of these specific times. Ballads like "Never Again" and "Nothin' Else" bear the markings of classic break-up songs but, far from licking his wounds throughout the rest of this debut, Timberlake includes a number of cuts that celebrate being single including the Timbaland-produced cut "Right for Me" and equally the thumping "Rock Your Body." Other names this teen idol nabbed in a quest for credibility are red-hot producers the Neptunes and P. Diddy.
