(1 Customer Review)
Soul-pop singer Dionne Warwick released LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT in 1977. The album includes the songs "Keepin' My Head Above Water" and "A Long Way to Go," among others.
Though Dionne Warwick's relationship with Warner Brothers was not marked by the same success as her partnership with the songwriters and producers Burt Bacharach and Hal David, she nevertheless managed to release some entertaining vintage 1970s recordings during her time there. This 1977 album, the last of her Warner Brothers releases, features the deceptively perky sounding "Keeping My Head Above Water," as well as the elegant "Don't Ever Take Your Love Away," which harks back to her classic '60s hit, "Don't Make Me Over."
Personnel: Dionne Warwick (background vocals); Jay Graydon, Ray Parker, Ben Benay (guitars); Sid Sharp (strings); Chuck Findley, Dick Hyde, Ernie Watts, Fred Selden, Steve Madaio, Lew McCreary (horns); Peter Larson (piano); Michael Omartian (keyboards); Scott Edwards (bass instrument); Ed Greene (drums); Victor Feldman, Steve Barri (percussion); Eunice Peterson, Ann White, Darlene Love, Stormie Omartian, Myrna Matthews, Marti McCall (background vocals). Love At First Sight
$18.05 Growing up among Afro-Americans in Berkeley, CA, Greek-American Johnny Otis (born John Veliotes) always identified strongly with people of color. Before he had attained the age of 20 he was gigging with black jazz bands throughout the Southwest, and eventually organized an ensemble deliberately patterned after Count Basie's orchestra. This highly charged album of historical musical artifacts documents the very beginning of Johnny ...

| | Dionne Warwick Here I Am CD (1965)
Love At First Sight
$10.29 Perhaps one of the most assured of the collaborations between the songwriting and production team of Bacharach and David and their singer of choice Dionne Warwick, this 1965 set is a masterful balance of nuanced production and inspired performance. "Here I Am" is a simply orchestrated yet exquisite recording, and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" is pure '60s sophistication, while the lively stop-go arrangement of "How Can I Hurt You" is delightfully playful.
Dionne Warwick's early- and mid-'60s Scepter Records catalog stands as some of her finest and most prolific works in conjunction with the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. By the time of Here I Am in 1966, the superhuman nature of the trio's relationship had resulted in five long-players in three years, not counting soundtracks and live albums, which would bring the total to seven during the same time. Although some of their most ...
| | Dionne Warwick Here Where There Is Love CD (1967)
Love At First Sight
$10.45 Here Where There Is Love was a big album for Dionne Warwick, a very respectable adult contemporary creation featuring three Top 30 hits: "Trains and Boats and Planes," "I Just Don't Know What to Do with Myself," and the classic theme from the film of the same name, "Alfie." The problem here is a double-edged sword, part of which is the packaging that Scepter Records wrapped this beautiful music in. The photo of two lovers on a beach under off-pink skies at sunset looks like something Ray Conniff might have been happy with. If Warwick were on a Columbia Records-sized label, she might not have had the string of hits she enjoyed with this smaller record company, but her albums, like those of Johnny Mathis, might have had significantly more catalog value just from the promotion and packaging side of things. Side one is completely composed ...

This album is no exception, as Tyner teams up with Latin jazz hotshots like flautist Dave Valentin and percussionists ...

$15.09 This double-disc set puts the studio collaborations of the Supremes and the Temptations--two of Motown's best groups--into one package. Moreover, the track list includes many of the finest songs produced by Berry Gordy's music empire, authored by the likes of Ashford & Simpson, Smokey Robinson, and Marvin Gaye, along with pop hits by Bacharach & David, Lennon & McCartney, and more.
Beginning with an uncharacteristically flashy medley, the rest of the set falls right into step. "Try It Baby," "I Second That Emotion," and a "Funky Broadway" are only a few of the treasures here. On disc two, ...
| | Bun B Trill (Chopped & Screwed) CD (2005) Chop
Love At First Sight
$13.89 With his debut solo release, TRILL, Bun-B proves that he doesn't need his UGK partner Pimp C to deliver the goods. On this sprawling set of gangsta-crunk tracks, the Texas-based rapper delivers more unflinching, sinister tales from the ghetto over dizzying, southern-fried beats. The impressive array of contributors--including Ludacris, Too Short, Ying Yang Twins, Scarface, and Mike Jones--adds even more star power to an already top-notch production.
With his partner Pimp C struggling with legal problems and eventually incarceration, fellow UGK member Bun B was forced to go it alone. His Mddl Fngz project was satisfying and his guest appearances are always welcome, but with Trill he establishes himself as an exciting solo artist benefiting from both experience and the hunger of someone just ...
