| | Dionne Warwick On Stage And In The Movies CD Dionne Warwick Discography of CDs
Though Dionne Warwick sings no Burt Bacharach numbers here, her collaborator still has a hand in some of the arrangements of this collection of classic show tunes. Warwick's "My Ship" has a beautiful vibraphone backing, her version of "Baubles, Bangles, and Beads" exudes 1960s bachelor pad cool, and she also takes a leisurely promenade through "My Favorite Things," making the much-loved SOUND OF MUSIC standard sound like a stroll though Bergdorf's.

On Stage And In The Movies album
$10.45 Perhaps one of the most assured of the collaborations between the songwriting and production team of Bacharach and David and their singer of choice Dionne Warwick, this 1965 set is a masterful balance of nuanced production and inspired performance. "Here I Am" is a simply orchestrated yet exquisite recording, and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" is pure '60s sophistication, while the lively stop-go arrangement of "How Can I Hurt You" is delightfully playful.

| | Metalwood Recline CD (2002)
On Stage And In The Movies songs
$15.65 After three strong Canadian indie releases, the jazz-funk band Metalwood broke out to American audiences with The Recline. There's a less experimental, more hook-oriented flavor to this record, but still a great deal of energetic interplay and hip, jazz-centric improv. Brad Turner plays equally well on keyboards and trumpet (not unlike George Colligan), while Mike Murley switches between tenor and soprano sax, blowing nicely over the heavy grooving of bassist Chris Tarry and drummer Ian Froman. Guest ...

$13.09 With her storied shunning of major labels and the cultivation of her own record label, Righteous Babe, in beleaguered hometown Buffalo, New York, indie-folkster Ani DiFranco hasn't had to cultivate any image as the ultimate in DIY, she just emanates the essence of everything that acronym embodies. To declare, however, that her 13th studio album, EDUCATED GUESS, is her most do-it-yourself ...
| | Super Funk: Rare And Classic Funk From The Vaults 1966-1972 Volume 4 CD (2004) (Import) United Kingdom
On Stage And In The Movies CD music
$16.95 Like the previous volumes of BGP's Super Funk series, this coughs up a batch of rare soul-funk, often licensed from labels with which the Ace reissue label (of which BGP is a subsidiary) has had long-running relationships. Contrary to what the subtitle ("rare and classic street funk from the vaults 1966-1973") suggests, these 20 tracks might be more "rare" than "classic" (two of them are even previously unissued). But generally they're pretty fun if somewhat formulaic slices of period early funk, not a one of them by a star artist, though soul and blues collectors might be familiar ...
