Chick Flicks: Collection CD music
$11.98 There was a time when British Steel was the hottest, hardest, and most awesome substance on the planet. On Judas Priest "Concert Classics", here it is, in its most appropriate circumstances: live, on stage. Judas Priest re-invented heavy metal. The first band to use the twin-guitar attack, they built on the foundation Black Sabbath had laid and moved ...

| | Timothy B Schmit Expando CD (2009)
Chick Flicks: Collection album
$11.99 Timothy B Schmit launched his solo career late - in 1984, after the Eagles disbanded and right in the thick of the era of shiny, synthesized production. Schmit released three solo albums, all big and glossy, between 1984 and 1991, then reunited with the Eagles in '94, so he never quite had ...
| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Chick Flicks: Collection CD music
$15.15 Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronic concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira.. sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf " boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute). Though most tracks on the upcoming album will be in English, Shakira chose to service the Spanish version of the first single, "Loba", two weeks before the English single is launched.
Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet ...

| | Laurent Garnier Shot In The Dark CD (1995)
Chick Flicks: Collection album
$10.59 As a DJ and producer, Laurent Garnier has never attempted to disguise his endless love for classic Detroit techno and Chicago acid-house. On his first album, Garnier blatantly follows the blueprint laid by the music's pioneers, although he rarely lives up to the lofty expectations. It seems as though Garnier's technical skills did not match his musical aspirations. The cutting acid whip of "Astral Dreams" takes the minimal jack beat to the next level of aggression, but loses most of its funk in the process. "The Force," with it Darth Vader vocals, is "Garnier's" attempt to re-create Lil' Louis' dark ...
| | Frank Darmiento Sudden Impact CD (2004)
Chick Flicks: Collection CD music
$13.29 Summit is a small label that has developed a reputation for uncovering talented veteran musicians who haven't had ample opportunities to record as leaders. One such player is trombonist Frank Darmiento, who's joined by a rhythm section including keyboardist Joel Rubin, bassist Steve Millhouse, and drummer Bob Wainwright. Darmiento, who penned six of the 11 tracks, is primarily responsible for the arrangements, though he recognizes some assistance from his bandmates.
He starts off "My Old Flame" with an unaccompanied excerpt of a cello suite by Johann Sebastian Bach, transcribed for trombone. ...

| | Penelopes Arrogance Of Simplicity CD (2007)
Chick Flicks: Collection album
$19.19 To the uninitiated, tHe pEneLOpe[s] (aka Axel Basquiat and Vincent Tremel) seem like nothing more than a knock-off of other retro-chic electronic acts bopping around Europe. Like fellow Francophones Daft Punk and Sebastien Schuller they have a habit of donning masks during their performances, and like Air they're "aficionados of vintage instruments." To top things off, they make a point of calling their music "existential," which just sounds silly. Given all this, the average, jaded electronic music junkie might be tempted to pass tHe pEneLOpe[s] up -- which might be a mistake. Even if they come across as a little clichéd and pretentious, the good news is that their debut, The Arrogance of Simplicity, is really addictive. Forget the existentialism, this is some seriously danceable music. Likely taking a cue or two from like-minded contemporaries Dopplereffekt and Miss Kittin, tHe pEneLOpe[s] have made an album that combines the spaciness of the Cocteau Twins and New Order with the heady beats and dripping, ominous vocals of KMFDM. "Teenage Dust" (a remix of a song by LTNO that originally appeared ...
