| | Stewart Walker Concentricity CD Stewart Walker Discography of CDs
Treading a fine line between soothing ambient minimalism and techno, CONCENTRICITY--Berlin-based techno wiz Stewart Walker's sixth full-length release--is 60 minutes of understated synth bleeps, gentle but chilly percussion, and mesmerizing washes of keyboards. Stewart Walker has crafted an album that blends in the background pleasingly, and yet asserts itself at odd moments.

Concentricity album
$11.65 A San Francisco-based smooth R&B act with roots in Philadelphia soul, Maze (usually billed as Maze featuring Frankie Beverly) never managed to break with a larger mainstream audience during their late-`70s to early `80s peak, but nevertheless garnered a devoted following in urban radio as one of the progenitors of the romantic, understated style known as "quiet storm." And the group's jazz-funk sophistication can certainly be felt in contemporary R&B and neo-soul styles of the `90s and `00s, with some of their career highpoints ("Joy and Pain" and "Before I Let Go") being heavily sampled by hip-hop ...

| | Michael Jackson Bad CD (1987) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Special Edition
Concentricity music CDs
$7.59 Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
Jackson's domination of the world record market continued following Thriller, although by comparison it was an almighty flop with only 12 million sales. As Pink Floyd and Dire Straits have proved, one album can go completely sales haywire without necessarily being any better. The title track and the gorgeous "Man In The Mirror" were substantial hits, but quality material such as "Dirty Diana" and "Liberian Girl" bolster a strong album. Jackson also seemed to have found the romance he seeks in "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" and "The Way You Make Me Feel." Regardless of his press, history clearly shows that he has made a lot of people very, very happy.

| | Tech N9ne K.O.D. CD (2009) Digipak
Concentricity songs
$15.65 As an acolyte of horrorcore, a rap micro genre adorned with grisly lyrics and macabre themes, Tech N9ne is one of the more controversial and misunderstood figures in hip-hop music. Coming off the heels of his second album of collaborations, the early 2009-release SICKOLOGY 101, the ever prolific Tech released a late-2009 solo effort ...

| | Royce Da 59 Street Hop CD (2009)
Concentricity CD music
$11.49 In pre-release interviews, Royce da 5'9" laid out a perfect description of his style: a Detroit kid brought up on Nas whose head was sent spinning once Eminem came around. Three years in the making--twelve months in prison for a DUI being part of the problem--STREET HOP often has a solid foundation that's absolutely classic in feel but also features those quirky, sick-o rhymes that are distinctly post-Shady. "I mix a between Chris Brown and Chris Jericho/Where's your daughter?" is an unsettling bit from the freaky track "Street Hop 2010" which goes on to reference Marlon Brando's Apache friend picking up his Oscar right before rattling off some psycho-babble about "syphilis nun chucks" and other bizarre whatnot. Hard to believe the convincing R&B stunner "Thing for Your Girlfriend" could follow with all its radio-friendly polish while elsewhere "New Money" brings reminders of Roc-A-Fella's heyday with its bright and grand Streetrunner production. The minimal "Soldier" features an innovative Frequency beat with a bit of Rick Rubin-styled crunch which Royce takes in another direction, going the Kool Keith route and hurling insults like "Your mama got a glass eye/With a fish in it." "The Warriors" takes the album down a dark alley with some help from Royce's group Slaughterhouse and when Trick Trick shows up for the terrorizing "Gangsta," it's as cold and unforgiving as the gangsta albums of yore. If there's a complaint to be made it's that STREET HOP's long road to completion is felt in that this diverse set of songs just barely hangs together. Still, its one highlight after another and executive ...

| | Leonard Cohen Dear Heather CD (2004)
Concentricity CD music
$8.99 While there are some familiar elements present, much of DEAR HEATHER is a stark contrast to virtually all of Leonard Cohen's previous recorded work. Where the Canadian troubadour's previous albums all sounded like carefully constructed towers of song, built piece by painstaking piece (and Cohen has confirmed this as his working process), DEAR HEATHER seems to be an entirely more spontaneous offering. One might speculate that longtime Buddhist Cohen has taken the precepts of Zen to heart in presenting a batch of compositions unmarred by the effects of obvious labor.
Lyrically and melodically, these songs are more sparse and pared-down than anything else in Cohen's catalog. Some are whittled down to only a simple recitation repeated numerous times over a skeletal chord progression. By simplifying his approach to such an extreme degree, it seems as though Cohen is trying to get as close as possible to the heart of his work, without the literary trappings of his past accomplishments. Nevertheless, one link with his previous work is the bonus live cut tacked on to the end of the disc. In the tradition of past quirky Cohen covers like Irving Berlin's "Always" and Richard Blakeslee's "Passing Thru," the gravel-voiced singer tackles the country classic "Tennessee Waltz" with trademark aplomb that ...
