A year after reforming to smash the rap world with CALI IZ ACTIVE, Tha Dogg Pound comes with a harder sound on DOGG CHIT. Snoop is less present (he rhymes on two joints) and so is the crossover appeal of CALI IZ ACTIVE. Instead, listeners get a heavy dose of that good old L.A. gangsta funk, with seething synthesizers and chilling piano lines offset by thumping bass beats courtesy of Daz, who handled the majority of the album's production. The Game, Too $hort, and Bad Azz make guest appearances.
After taking a four-year break before their last album, 2006's Cali Iz Active, Tha Dogg Pound are making up for lost time by not even letting a year pass before releasing Dogg Chit. One can wonder if it had anything to do with Active's low sales, since nobody seemed to want Tha Pound lifted out of the ghetto and onto the charts. If the artwork's reference to their debut didn't clue you in, Dogg Chit is a return to the bleak and brutal world they explored back in 1995. It's all convincing, going against any thought the return to form is contrived and forced, and beats are so G-funk it's only when the Game shows up that the album feels post-2000. Paternity tests come under fire on the amusing "Dat Ain't My Baby," and "Vibe" forgets about carrying heat for a change, but the rest of the album is pure thugging and won't recruit any new fans. Course, when they partied it up less than a year before, nobody noticed, so this traditional, almost entirely Daz-produced effort is no big surprise. Daz's best production in my opinion. Lots of aggression in this album. Blazin themes, beats, and ideas. Not the best lyricallly in comparison to their early days but pure fire. This latest installment is an example of Classic Gangsta Rap! The real deal. If you love west coast this is a must!

It's Bangin
I Just Want to say one word, "Gangsta", this album it's worth to buy, this dogg pound cd is pure gangsta rap, it has a lot good song in it, Thanks God that the West Coast Still Alive and I hope that the next album they will drop will be gangsta like this.

MAN THIS CD SUCKS IT ONLY HAS LIKE 2 OR 3 GOOD SONGS. ONE OF THEM BEING TRACK 4 WITH THE GAME OF COURSE IT'S GOING TO BE GOOD. OTHER THEN THAT THE CD IS WATERED DOWN WITH DAZ'S SLOPPY PUT TOGETHER PRODUCTION YOU WANT A REAL WEST COAST CD GET THE NEW GAME CD DOCTOR'S ADVOCATE MAN THAT CD IS A BANGER LEAVE THIS ONE ALONE...

This album totally blew me away. Talk about slammin DPG ish!! This LP totally blows away what the Dogg Pound put out last year after getting back together. I was like "Damn"!! In my opinion this comes so close to Dogg Food but with a fresh 2007 taste. You just put this CD in and let it play. I think there was MAYBE one song I thought was just ok. The rest, well, def slammin satisfaction! Daz really showed what he could do when he put out So so Gangsta, and had some good production behind in Jermaine Dupri. That album was DOPE!! I think he needed someone who is still relatively big in the industry to get him back on track to producing great music again. And that he did!! Kurupt and Daz spit great, clever rhymes all throughout the album. I can't stop listening to it...it has been in my car cd player since I bought it when it came out. Go cop this album, and don't bootleg it. Show support for DPGC and purchase it!
Well worth the price of admission!!!!!

The Dial Records Story, Volume 4. The late Joe Tex was amongst the most popular Southern Soul artists of the mid-late 60s. Equally at home with up-tempo songs and even disco, Joe's major successes came with a series of 'preaching' deep soul singles that espoused the down home values of life in America's Deep South. This series reissues all the Tex LPs on CD for the first time and contains all his US and international hits, plus bonus tracks, recorded for Dial records until his death in 1982.
