Evernight album
$14.05 After 2005's Aeronautics, Masterplan experienced some major lineup changes. Singer Jorn Lande and drummer Uli Kusch (of Helloween and Gamma Ray fame) both left the band -- and on 2007's MK II, the newcomers include Mike DiMeo (formerly of Riot) on lead vocals and Mike Terrana (who has played with Yngwie Malmsteen) on drums. But keyboardist Axel Mackenrott and guitarist Roland Grapow (formerly ...

| | Mark Newton Follow Me Back To The Fold: A Tribute To Women In Bluegrass CD (2000)
Evernight album
$14.05 Principally recorded at Bias, Sprigfield, Virginia; Lighthouse, Brentt Truitts, Nashville, Tennessee; Riverside Audio, Mount Gilead, North Carolina.
Bluegrass guitarist Mark Newton undertook quite a project when he assembled his 2000 album Follow Me Back to the Fold by calling together some of the most talented women in bluegrass and showcasing many of their compositions on a single CD. Festival stalwarts Rhonda Vincent, Lynn Morris, and the Whites anchor some of the lesser-known newcomers like Valerie Smith and Sally Jones, making for an interesting blend of familiar and new voices. Newton assembled a top-notch band, including Tony Rice, Alan Bibey, Ronnie Stewart, Fred Travers, and (naturally) two female instrumentalists, Missy Raines on bass and Kristin Scott playing banjo. These seasoned studio and touring musicians lay down a clean backdrop for the guest vocalists to work over top of, each adding subtle nuances and their own personal style to their respective tracks. The gentle "A Child Again" is a quiet duet featuring warm and intimate vocals from Cathy Chiavola, while Lynn Morris' "Never Looking Back" rips and rolls along on a more boisterous path. The album ends with an ensemble piece paying tribute to ...

| | Dio Angry Machines CD (1996)
Evernight album
$16.09 Originally released on Mayhem in 1996, then reissued by Spitfire in 2000, Angry Machines was Dio's first effort away from Warner/Reprise, and it does find Ronnie James Dio looking for subtle ways to push into new territory. The lyrics mostly avoid ...
| | Subterranean Masquerade Suspended Animation Dreams CD (2005)
Evernight CD music
$10.79 What seemed like a great idea on Subterranean Masquerade's pint-sized debut EP, Temporary Psychotic State: applying the "everything but the kitchen sink" approach of progressive rock to psychedelic waffling, gothic vocalizing, and heavy metal crunch -- proves a little too much to stomach on their sprawling full-length, Suspended Animation Dreams. With the exception of a few, regular-sized tracks that mostly sound unfinished (or perhaps, in retrospect, were mere leftover passages), the album is comprised mostly of ill-defined epics, seemingly built specifically to convey the band's versatility via the juxtaposition of polar musical styles. Thus, psychedelic whimsy leads into doom metal fury, leads into lounge piano swing, leads into dreamy folk-rock, leads into darkwave negativity, leads into mournful hick harmonica, ...
| | Reparata & The Delrons Best Of Reparata & The Delrons CD (2005) (Import) United Kingdom
Evernight music CDs
$15.45 There have been Reparata & the Delrons compilations before this 2005 release with the bootleg Magical Musical History Tour being the most thorough. This 30-track anthology, however, has the considerable advantage of being an authorized production with correspondingly superior fidelity, as well as a 16-page booklet of historical liner notes with rare photos and comments from Reparata herself. As with every artist where you can't fit everything onto a single CD, there's room for argument on the track selection; one of their better cuts ("Summer Laughter") is missing, and there are a few unimaginative covers of girl group tunes that were hits for other acts. Still, it does include the songs everyone would agree need to be on a best-of ("Whenever a Teenager Cries," "Captain of Your Ship," "I'm Nobody's Baby Now"), as well as a few rarities credited to Reparata alone (and one to the Delrons alone). It still doesn't make an argument for them being among the best girl groups; the material's not always ...
