| | Fats Domino Sentimental Journey - Live At The University Of New Orleans CD Fats Domino Discography of CDs
Blue Label's double-disc 2007 release Sentimental Journey: Live at the University of New Orleans captures a 1987 concert from the Fat Man, as he rolled through 26 songs. A bunch of the big hits are here -- all the ones that the casual fan knows, such as "I'm Walking," "Ain't That a Shame," and "Blueberry Hill" -- plus some rollicking numbers better known to Fats and New Orleans aficionados, such as "Please Don't Leave," "Poor Me," and "Going to the River." Domino is in good form -- he may not hit the high notes like he did 30 years prior, but his singing is as robust as his propulsive piano -- and the band is a bunch of pros who keep the groove rolling (although the bassist is far too busy, particularly on "The Fat Man," where his incessant popping is distracting). This is neither Fats at his best nor worst, but rather just a good solid double down the middle -- maybe not the kind of album that's your first choice to put on, but once it's playing it's hard not to get caught up in its infectious good times. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Sentimental Journey - Live At The University Of New Orleans Music Sentimental Journey - Live At The University Of New Orleans Review

$11.29 Released in celebration of Les Paul's 90th birthday, AMERICAN MADE WORLD PLAYED pays tribute to the master guitarist and inventor who changed the face of jazz, country, blues, and rock with his recording and guitar-design innovations. While the lineup here is stellar and includes vocalists Sting, Joss Stone, and Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), and guitarists Joe Perry (Aerosmith) and Richie Sambora (Bon Jovi), among others, the album is at its best when it allows Paul to shine in an instrumental setting, as on the slinky rendition of Duke Ellington's "Caravan" and the funky "69 Freedom Special."

Sentimental Journey - Live At The University Of New Orleans album
$9.89 Marian McPartland hasn't worried for a moment about fans who become disgruntled when her weekly guest comes from outside of jazz. But they have little to gripe about with rocker Bruce Hornsby, who not only has a jazz background from his studies at the University of Miami, but immediately tells his host that he waited a dozen years or more to accept her invitation in order to get his solo piano chops up to a level that he deemed acceptable. Hornsby is hardly the typical rock composer, as he creates imaginative melodies with lyrics that never fall into a rut. His amusing opener, "King of the Hill," incorporates the right-hand line of Bill Evans' difficult "Twelve Tone Tune" in several spots, while it's easy to imagine Marian stifling raucous laughter as he sings the line, "Got his hand in his pants at the skin flick/Leisure suit, thinks it's slick." Equally infectious is "Sneaking Up on Boo Radley," a song inspired by his childhood habit of following mental patients around in his hometown. An incredible right-hand line that blends influences from several diverse musical styles accompanies his ostinato bass. Hornsby's signature song, "The ...

Sentimental Journey - Live At The University Of New Orleans CD music
$15.69 Based out of Halifax and featuring members of the Burdocks, Dog Day has a tight, loud and energetic vibe going on during the short but terribly sweet "Lydia" which sounds like a perfect melding of Placebo and the Velvet Underground. Singer Seth Smith has a great voice for these angular, urgent rock tunes, especially on "End of the World" that would fit just as well on an album by the Smiths as it would Forward Russia. And the album seems to get better with each song, with "Oh Dead Life" sparkling as if it was to be included on a tribute album to the Cure. This blueprint is revisited again on the crisply delivered "Sleeping, Waiting." Even when ...
