Better Than Law songs
$6.55 Featuring a minor guest appearance by Jon Bon Jovi, Cinderella's debut album, Night Songs, positions the band as a second-tier pop-metal outfit, with a mix of ballads ("Nobody's Fool") and rockers ("Somebody Save Me") one might find on an album by any similar '80s band with a high-pitched vocalist. It's not bad, just generic; the band does hint at the potential it would fulfill on later albums, ...

| | Bryan Kelley Charming The Gods CD (1998)
Better Than Law music CDs
$14.79 Charming the Gods, the debut album from Santa Monica-based Brian Kelley, combines earnest strumming with equally earnest lyrics for a result that is sometimes touching and emotive, and other times syrupy and derivative. The bluesy "Angels" sounds like a shrine built to Eric Clapton, while the next track, "She Crawls" adds a metal edge to Kelley's folky wail -- the song is one of the most heavily produced on the album and is the furthest from his usual acoustic style, but it is smoothly executed and actually works well. The album was almost entirely recorded outside of the studio -- mostly in Kelley's apartment and the background noise (baseball games on the radio, children playing on the street) is charming at first but intrusive by the end, especially on the quieter songs. There is a thread of spirituality that runs throughout which helps ground the world-weary sensitivity --a quality that sometimes sounds a little precious coming from someone so young (the jacket art makes Kelley look not a day over 30). Overall, this seems to be a deeply personal record that employs some interesting musical textures to support occasionally brilliant songwriting. ~ Stacia Proefrock
Bryan Kelley cut his musical teeth on the ukulele at the age of four, while living in the Philippines. By thirteen, he'd moved to guitar and Seattle. Growing up in several Northwest bands over the next few years he emerged as a singer/ songwriter in Los Angeles, a new voice in the best tradition - an edgy poet-musician,musically rooted in folk and modern rock.Bryan's debut album "Charming the Gods ", is a ten song tapestry of modern folk-rock - edgy, with traditional elements (acoustic guitar, fiddle, squeezebox, mandolin, etc. ) woven throughout. From the angry gait of the featured song "She Crawls " to the fresh optimism of "Angels," the album charts a wide range of raw emotion. The title track is a beautiful lament over the dark ritual of managing hard addiction. With songs featured in TV shows such as Dawson's Creek, Providence, and Party of Five, Bryan has shared the stage with Tonic, GooGoo Dolls, Bill Miller, Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, Richard Buckner, Ellis Paul, Freedy Johnston, Willy Porter and many others. Bryan has also been a guest on the syndicated radio shows Acoustic ...
| | Amaran Pristine In Bondage CD (2004) Bonus Tracks; Japan
Better Than Law songs
$37.59 Sweden's Amaran once again throw their lot into Europe's bustling operatic metal cauldron with their second effort, 2004's Pristine in Bondage. Unlike the power metal-leaning Nightwish or the increasingly trip-hopping the Gathering, however, Amaran usually imparts a darker, more sinister edge to their thrash-based compositions -- not to mention their visual and lyrical imagery. At least some of the time, given this clearly conflicted album. Featuring presumed singles candidates like "Revolution Without Arms," "Coming Home," and "Inflict," the first half of Pristine in Bondage does tip the scales into commercially accessible territory as, under close scrutiny, their excessive harmonies and melodic choruses rely on rather straightforward song structures. More so than simplifying Amaran's sound for the benefit of their less sophisticated consumers, this winds up diluting its potential impact instead -- an impact largely reliant on the contrasting elements of the band's viciously metallic assault and ...
