Children songs
$6.05 Don Ho's very name has become a veritable punchline. Yet his achievements can not be dismissed as easily as an obvious joke. Few recording artists have been so comfortable in so many genres--Don Ho masterfully handles anything from country to light rock to luau listening. ...
| | Fabulous Wailers CD (1959)
Children album
$12.59 As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. Naysayers to the contrary, this debut album by the Northwest's first great rock & roll combo is just such an artifact. The Wailers dispensed crude, greasy, largely instrumental rock & roll music for those who came to shake it up and shake it down, and it's all on fine, rhythmic, open display here. This album is amazing in its own simplistic, nuthin'-special way, its crudity almost palpable. There's only one vocal aboard, Kent Morrill's "Dirty Robber," later covered and torched by the Sonics. Everything else is built on the riff-sturdy bones of their biggest hit, "Tall Cool One." With two guitars, piano, sax, and drums -- no bass player anywhere on here, another crudeness indicator ...

| | Jonas Hellborg Temporal Analogues Of Paradise CD (1996)
Children songs
$13.79 This classic album is now being remastered, repackaged and re-released. Recorded on a 1995 tour of Europe, it has captured a lot of attention since its release in 1996. At the start, it's just a simple bass figure: two notes repeated slowly. But over the
Here's another stunningly beautiful Jonas Hellborg album with another misleadingly dorky title (cf. Octave of the Holy Innocents, Ars Moriende, etc.). The dorkiness of the title is misleading because it's simply not reflected in the music, which, while decidedly virtuosic and occasionally even esoteric, is for the most part admirably grounded and accessible. With guitar hero Shawn Lane and drummer Apt. Q-258 (aka Jeff Sipe), Hellborg spins out two half-hour long improvisations (or, as they're called here, "movements"); the first is the more rockish, and also the less interesting of the two. Opening with a ringing ...
| | Dropkick Murphys Warrior's Code CD (2005) Digipak
Children album
$11.39 Like The Pogues before them, the Dropkick Murphys successfully combine traditional Irish music, (lusty, barroom choruses plus accordion and bagpipes) and punk rock (choppy guitar riffs, speedy drumming) into the kind of Celt-punk that's at the heart of their fifth album, THE WARRIOR'S CODE. Amid the folkie "Captain Kelly's Kitchen" and "I'm Shipping Up to Boston," (based around previously unreleased Woody Guthrie lyrics) and Australian troubadour Eric Bogle's anti-war anthem "The Green Fields of France," modern-day punk energy is a constant.
Scruffy Wallace's aforementioned bagpipes fuse well with James Lynch and Marc Orrell's raging guitars on a title track dedicated to Massachusetts welterweight "Irish" Mickey Ward, while the raucous "Wicked Sensitive Crew" makes light of the DMs being "touchy feely sensitive guys." Most touching is "Last Letter Home," an homage to Sgt. Andrew Farrar, a die-hard fan who died serving in Iraq (the band ...
| | Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill Acoustic CD (2005) Enhanced CD
Children CD music
$12.19 The enhanced portion of this release contains an unreleased video footage and more.
Ten years after the 1995 release of her bold Maverick debut, JAGGED LITTLE PILL, Alanis Morissette commemorated her breakthrough album by re-recording it in an acoustic-based studio setting. Those predicting safe reinterpretations of Morissette's headstrong, diary-like songs are proven wrong; here Glen Ballard's slick rock production is replaced by his own earthy, organic new arrangements, and Morissette is clearly invigorated by the chance to rework some of her most beloved tunes.
The decade since JAGGED LITTLE PILL made Morissette a more savvy and nuanced artist. Some tracks, including the vibrant, Middle Eastern-inflected "All I Really Want" and the yearning "Wake Up," feature a ...
