Résonances pour altos et violons. Some works of chamber music are, with actual methods, accessible to an interpreter, who may play the different voices. Thus, the violinist and viola player, Gerald Israël got interested by the concerto of G. Ph. Telemann (TWV51:G9), in G major, for viola, orchestra and basso continuo, presented here for violas and violins. The cello part was transposed to the viola octave. The basso continuo, usually given to the keyboard, was transferred to the orchestra. The result is this unique interpretation for violins and violas not presented before. Moreover, the interpreter adds his cadences, while respecting the work. The third suite of J.S. Bach (BWV1009), a dance for cello, was transposed to the quint for the viola. This universal suite could have been played with the guitar or the lute without loss of its style. It was interesting to continue with the partita for violin solo of J.S. Bach (BWV1004), also a suite of dances. The classicism of F.J. Haydn ( sonata in B flat major) breaks with the baroque style, but it is still a dance for the violin and the viola. Finally, the interpreter plays the arrangement for the violin and viola of the keyboard duo in F major of J.S. Bach (BWV803). This arrangement emphasizes the harmony between the two instruments, theme of this record.
