| | Diana Stabel Wave CD Diana Stabel Discography of CDs
"Wave is a typical debut album as material goes, with a mix of jazz standards and show tunes, and the romantic Jobim bossa nova number that titles the disc. Stabel even allows that one song she included, My Funny Valentine, is overdone these days. But none of that matters because the singer makes it work with strong pipes, control, confidence and ingenuity with her phrasing, and a real connection to the lyrics."Roger Levesque, Edmonton JournalA darling of the jazz genre, 24-year-old vocalist Diana Stabel is an engaging interpreter of popular song, who captures audiences with her superb technique, sensual and distinctive tone, expressive phrasing, and lucid sincerity.Diana has been a regular in Edmonton’s live music scene for the past six years, including a four-year house gig at the La Ronde Revolving Restaurant. A few career highlights include sharing the stage with Canadian icon Bobby Curtola at Alberta’s Centennial Celebrations in 2005, and more recently performing to a sold-out crowd at Rexall Place for the Edmonton Oilers’ 2006-2007 season homecoming game. In spring of 2006, Diana was one out of only 20 local artists who was awarded a grant from Rawlco Radio as part of their 10K 20 project. The result of it is Diana’s debut album, Wave, produced by Juno nominee and Canadian Indie Award winner Sandro Dominelli. The album is composed of nine jazz standards and features the fantastic talents of Chris Andrew on piano, Robert Walsh on guitar, Mike Lent on bass, and Sandro Dominelli on drums.Constantly exploring new avenues of music, Diana is already compiling material for her next album, entitled Dreams, which will showcase her talents as both a vocalist as well as a songwriter, and will feature elements of folk, rock and pop music. Wave music CDs
$15.65 After three strong Canadian indie releases, the jazz-funk band Metalwood broke out to American audiences with The Recline. There's a less experimental, more hook-oriented flavor to this record, but still a great deal of energetic interplay and hip, jazz-centric improv. Brad Turner plays equally well on keyboards and trumpet (not unlike George Colligan), while Mike Murley switches between tenor and soprano sax, blowing nicely over the heavy grooving of ...

| | Reggie Hines Do You See What I See CD (2006)
Wave music CDs
$17.09 Reggie Hines, a diverse and explosive instrumentalist, was born and raised in the South Bronx of New York City. Being raised by a very musical family, Reggie was spoon-fed various styles of music including the unorthodox sounds of Parliament Funkadelic, the never ending grooves of the Godfather of Soul, James Brown, the innovative transitions of Miles Davis and the conventional sounds of southern gospel. The constant influences of music soon had an impact on young Reggie. Starting on the music scene as a drummer, Reggie played for several gospel groups in NYC and traveled throughout the East Coast. These experiences gave him an appetite for more. Even as a junior high school student he was very detailed and had a melodic mindset. He wanted to venture out musically. Although he enjoyed playing the drums, he wanted to play an instrument that would best describe his musical expression. He took an interest in the saxophone and realized that this instrument was it. Reggie embraced the saxophone with a passion. He enjoyed it and it allowed him to truly express himself. His commitment to studying, practicing and playing was exceptional. He rapidly progressed and earned a scholarship to the prestigious Usdan Camp of Performing Arts in Huntington, Long Island. After successfully completing this prestigious school, he auditioned for a number of performing arts high schools. He chose to attend Julia Richman High School’s Talent Unlimited program in Manhattan, New York where the foundation was laid for Reggie’s new and adventurous career. He began to feel a new energy different from the vibes the South Bronx gave. In the Bronx he surrounded himself with the highly syncopated Salsa, Merengue, and of course authentic Hip Hop. At Talent Unlimited, he was surrounded by Classical, Be Bop, Pop and other world music sounds. With so many musical styles to grasp, Reggie felt the saxophone wasn’t enough to obtain a musical grip on the trends. He then began to learn the piano. He felt he shouldn’t have to wait for a piano player to manifest ideas into reality when he could do it himself. He excelled on the keyboard and began playing keys for different local groups. Reggie went on to learn the bass guitar. Reggie’s musical talents became well known and he was sought by various musical artists. His music career includes playing for Regina Belle, Brian McKnight, Cheryl Pepsi Riley, Carl Thomas, Iyana Vanzant, Zhane, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Wu-Tang Clan, Sybil, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Freddie Jackson, Christopher Williams, Chico & El DeBarge, Hezekiah Walker & the Love Fellowship Choir, The O’Jay’s, Ray Chew ...
| | Aronov Alone Together CD (2006)
Wave songs
$11.39 After establishing himself in the Los Angeles jazz scene, Ben Aronov moved to New York City in 1960. He spent his first days earning a Bachelor of Music at the Manhattan School of Music and was welcomed into the local music world with a wide variety of jobs—from accompanying star vocalists to joining the rhythm sections of well-known jazzmen, with some solo piano gigs added to the mix. Eventually, he found himself playing with bassist Jay Leonhart, who came to New York a few years later. Jay had studied at the Peabody Institute in his native Baltimore, as well as the Berklee School of Music in Boston and Oscar Peterson’s Advanced School of Contemporary Music in Toronto. While they were establishing separate careers as much-in-demand jazz and studio musicians, Ben and Jay struck up a friendship, both musical and personal, and by the 1970s, they occasionally played in New York jazz clubs as a duo.In 1982, on one of these jobs at Zinno’s in Greenwich Village, producer Roger Rhodes (also a recording engineer, bassist, and music publisher) dropped in to hear their music, having recorded each of them on sessions in New York studios. Roger had long been an admirer of their individual playing, and was delighted to hear how well Jay and Ben fit together musically. He decided they should be recorded, and got them up to the now legendary RCA studio A, where they taped the music that is presented here. For a variety of reasons, the project languished for 24 years. Recently, Roger decided to revive it. With the new technology that has become available, he re-mastered the original tapes, and the sound on the resulting compact disc is remarkable in its clarity and tone quality. The choice of material is rich, and the music is wonderful. Ben’s approach to each piece is imaginative ...
