| | Donny Hathaway Collection CD (1990)
Nightmarez CD music
$8.75 Unfortunately, Atlantic's A Donny Hathaway Collection, one of the few career retrospectives available (and basically the only one in print), isn't quite definitive; it presents a version of Hathaway's career inordinately focused on his commercially successful duets with Roberta Flack, and his slowest, ...
| | Maxwell Now CD (2001)
Nightmarez music CDs
$8.49 "Lifetime" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.
Rebounding from the slight sophomore lag generated by 1998's EMBRYA, Maxwell's follow-up NOW abandons the neo-soul man's usual M.O. of using a conceptual arc of songs, and instead focuses on individual cuts. Romance remains the main ingredient found in this Brooklyn native's banquet of song, and although he stands firmly in the neo-soul camp of D'Angelo and Erykah, his use of various stylistic nuances once again stamps him as an original item. Twangy country-flavored licks and subtle DJ scratches pop up throughout the ...

| | T I Paper Trail CD (2008) Explicit Version
Nightmarez album
$15.65 After a year on lock-down for illegal machine gun possession, the self-proclaimed king of the south channels his personal strife into his introspective sixth studio album, PAPER TRAIL. The title stems from T.I.'s decision to return to writing his rhymes down on paper; the lyrical craftsmanship shows as the ATL icon delves into personal issues--speaking on his legal troubles ("Ready For Whatever"), his prison experience ("You Ain't Missing Nothing"), and his fallen homies ("Dead and Gone"). T.I. ...
| | Keb' Mo' CD (1994)
Nightmarez CD music
$7.19 The first solo release by contemporary blues-based artist Keb Mo' mixes a reverence for traditional country blues with more streamlined elements of commercial pop. Despite a convincing "down-home" approach of gravel-textured vocals and superior slide work and finger-picking skills, Keb Mo' avoids the pose of a hard line revivalist. ...

| | Wonderland: A Winter Solstice Celebration CD (2002)
Nightmarez songs
$13.89 If the mega-department stores put up their holiday displays earlier each year and the average suburban dweller decorates his or her home shortly after Halloween, then it only makes sense for record labels to get a jump-start on the Solstice/Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa season by issuing compilations in October. Now, thanks to Signature, one can listen to a fine collection of holiday songs while he or she drives past tacky storefronts and poorly hung garlands. Wonderland: A Winter Solstice Celebration features a dozen-plus singer/songwriters, most from Signature's fine cadre of artists, performing traditional pieces alongside self-penned ones. Peter Mulvey offers a fresh take on Joni Mitchell's "River," while Pete Nelson delves bravely into another contemporary classic, "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch." The key reason this collection works so well is that these performers seem to go out of their way to bring something new to timeworn pieces like "I Wonder As I Wander" and "I Saw Three Ships." Most of the arrangements are simple and straightforward, combining ...

| | Sean Carney's Blues For A Cure-Blues Cures CD (2009)
Nightmarez CD music
$18.99 One of the things I love the most about the 2008 Blues For A Cure event program is so many generations were represented. We’re happy that theme continues on this Blues For A Cure studio recording with featured artists Henry Gray, Jonn Richardson and Trampled Under Foot. This session took place on Sunday, December 14, following The Blues For A Cure Festival that raised $10,000 for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital (in memory of Heather Pick) and The American Cancer Society. We decided we wanted this release to support our cancer charities and our favorite musical non-profit organization, The Blues Foundation. My reasons for this are personal. In the summer of 2007, I spent a week in Rochester Memorial Hospital as the victim of a brown recluse spider bite. Sean Carney Band booking agent Jo-Ann Freda appealed to the Blues Foundation on my behalf, as just one in a sea of uninsured blues musicians. The Foundation, through their HART Fund (Handy Artists Relief Trust), contributed significantly toward my hospital bill. The HART Fund and other programs such as the International Blues Challenge, The Blues Music Awards, Blues in the Schools and Blues Hall Of Fame, clearly illustrate The Blues Foundation is about supporting Blues artists and the future of this uniquely American art form.Jonn, Nick and I endorse Category 5 Amplification. They were kind enough to provide guitar amplifiers for the event and this studio session, in addition to underwriting this release. On this release, we wanted to emphasize The International Blues Challenge and Albert King Award Most Promising Guitarist winners Jonn Richardson (2005 with Diunna Greenleaf), Nick Schnebelen (2008) and myself (2007). With that theme in mind, we also utilized the talents of Trampled Under Foot, Bill Stuve, Steve Gerard, “King Saxe” Gene Walker, Jim Godin and Brian Duress. We were overjoyed when Henry Gray and Andy Cornett agreed to participate in this session. Henry himself is a cancer survivor, and Andy lost both of his parents to cancer. Henry is a major architect of the classic Chicago Blues sound that developed in the 1950s on the famed Chess Records label. What an ...
