More than just the first single from Bonnie Prince Billy's THE LETTING GO album, the four-track EP STRANGE FORM OF LIFE contains three excellent non-LP tracks by singer-songwriter Will Oldham. Oldham's familiar country-influenced sound is apparent throughout this stripped-down EP, particularly on the outstanding reading of the Palace favorite "New Partner." STRANGE FORM OF LIFE also includes two enhanced CD-ROM videos for the title track and "Ebb Tide."
Personnel: Paul Oldham, Dawn McCarthy, Jim White, Emmett Kelly.

Strange Form Of Life album
$10.09 As stubbornly maverick as ever, the Fall's tenth album hinges on their now-accustomed dissonance, into which a tighter, commercial edge was introduced. New guitarist Brix Smith, wife of leader Mark E., added a partly melodious sheen that brought an air of 60s subculture ...

Strange Form Of Life music CDs
$12.69 Like 2003's MASTER AND EVERYONE, THE LETTING GO is a quiet, introspective record that examines the human heart, but the songs here equal or better those on its excellent predecessor. Oldham's insight into the politics of self and relationships is unflinching, and his wordplay--which balances surreal poetry with heartbreaking confessionals--is at its peak. Sonically, THE LETTING GO is expansive, adding strings, subtle percussion, and ambient effects that enhance but never crowd the songs. Harmony vocalist Dawn McCarthy contributes gorgeous textures to the mix of blues, country, folk, ...

| | Bonnie 'Prince' Billy Ask Forgiveness CD (2007)
Strange Form Of Life album
$10.05 After a devastating string of full-lengths in the early 2000s culminating in the one-two punch of 2005's collaboration with Matt Sweeney, SUPERWOLF, and 2006's wrenching THE LETTING GO, Will Oldham seemed to be in a state of letting go himself. He re-energized his acting career with OLD JOY and a goofy appearance in a Kanye West video; wrote "His Hands," the title track to soul singer Candi Staton's comeback record; and backed up Tortoise on an odd album that featured-- among other throwaways--a cover of Springsteen's "Thunder Road." ASK FORGIVENESS, ...

| | Sherman & Greg Instant Feedback CD (2005)
Strange Form Of Life album
$7.15 When Sherman enrolled his daughter in private cello lessons, he never imagined that he would wind up starting a band with her music teacher, Greg. But after the two shared their mutual admiration of guitar playing and love for music, they knew their new-found bond was worth pursuing. Their debut album Instant Feedback is a six-track ensemble of contemporary adult acoustic rock. The album was recorded at Shuttlecock Studios in Port Washington, NY, and produced by Russell Barnhart (The Condiments, Kristin Diable). With cadenced guitar strumming backed up by smooth beat and a layering of the duos' voices, "Jackie Louise" is a soft toe-tapping crowd favorite, while the melodies in "She's the One" are rich with a coffeehouse sense that exudes a heartfelt feel. DiscoveringArtists compared the songs to "a mountainside drive on a sunny Saturday afternoon."Both men write the songs, and have complimentary songwriting styles. While Greg uses a metaphorical approach, Sherman tends to write directly from the heart. Even though their techniques differ, the musicians have managed to merge their styles into one ...
| | Haunt It's Good If You Like It! CD (2006)
Strange Form Of Life CD music
$11.39 \'The Haunt\' formerly known as \'Sabrina\' walk on the edge of alternative, modern rock and pop while leaning heavily on its own infectious sound (Kings of Leon, Alison Moyet of Yaz, Stone Temple Pilots, Heart - Evanescence meets Kate Bush). The band skillfully employs professional songwriting with an appropriately commercial sheen while never compromising the integrity of rock. 'The Haunt' overall is an amazing group of seasoned musicians whom are vastly respected for their pure yet polished sound as well as lead singer and front woman Sabrina's stunning voice, sleek stage presence, and meaningful yet poetic lyrics that combined have captured the hearts of fans and media worldwide. Formed in New York City in 2001, Sabrina gained exceptional popularity locally as well as globally with her debut CD entitled \"Euphoria\". Almost immediately the influx of live performance requests from local venues and colleges came in and it was apparent Sabrina and her guitarist/songwriter partner, Keith Pires could no longer do the simple low-key acoustic shows they were doing locally and shortly thereafter in 2002 a full band was formed to accommodate the local NJ/NYC club scene as well as giving the fans what they wanted. While touring the 'Euphoria' album, the band recorded a 2nd album entitled '7 Tales from a Basement' released in 2004, which also received high praises from fans, press, and radio alike. And after touring that album, ...

| | Michael Brunnock So I Do CD (2007)
Strange Form Of Life songs
$11.55 Michael Brunnock - "So I Do"By Pete Olshansky "How do I explain my awkwardness?" Michael Brunnock sings on 'Shine,' a track from his solo debut album "So I Do." But there is nothing awkward about the album. 'Acoustic,' 'folk,' and 'Irish' are all words that have been used to describe Michael's music and while not necessarily wrong, they hardly scratch the surface of describing what is truly a fresh and unique album. From the moment the drums kick in on the opening track, music lovers will know that they are listening to something special. Swirling banjos, acoustic guitar and lush strings lay the framework for the album, while Michael's vocals vacillate between delicate and assertive. In spite of of the instrumentation, "So I Do" isn't what one would call 'world music.' Nevertheless Michael's Irish heritage does creep out on tracks like "Fallen Leaves" and "Born Again" which feature fiddles that will make you swear you've just arrived in Dublin. The latter, a foot-thumping lyrical manifesto that criticizes organized religion, is so charged ...
