Shout! Factory's triple-disc set The British Beat: Best of the '60s was released in conjunction with the 2007 PBS documentary of the same name and, like the show, this compilation is targeted at a general audience, so collectors shouldn't be surprised that there's hardly anything unfamiliar here. Indeed, the strength of this 57-track set is that it serves up many of the basics of the British Invasion. Of course, it doesn't have such heavy-hitters as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and the Who -- they never show up on sets like this -- but this is a well-chosen, very entertaining set that draws a pretty accurate portrait of '60s British pop through cuts by the Kinks, the Zombies, Donovan, Manfred Mann, the Searchers, the Tornados, the Hollies, Peter & Gordon, Gerry & the Pacemakers, the Yardbirds, the Tremeloes, Spencer Davis Group, Petula Clark, Lulu, Small Faces, Sandie Shaw, the Troggs, Tom Jones, Dusty Springfield, the Walker Brothers, and the Easybeats (who technically may be Australian but they fit). No Dave Clark Five, No Animals, No Herman's Hermits, No Beatles, No Stones! I'm assuming that licensing problems prohibited these artists from being put on this collection. I passed on this collection and made my own more complete collection instead.

Not a bad selection
57 songs for $39 is not bad. 95% are great classics. Finding the Kinks and Zombies is rare. But to a fault I would rather have had some of the missing British groups as opposed to multiple song by the same artist. But even the multi songs are good hits. Another disk with the the other great British groups (Dave Clark, Animals, Stones etc..) would have put this selection on the must have list. Overall, if you purchase this box set, you will be happy with it.

I listened to every song, and loved it. What a great collection. Nothing but the very best of the 60's. It truly takes you back to a time when music was such a great part of your life.

Some real oldies & Goodies
This double disc combo has many of the songs I grew up with. Many are the songs I still enjoy to sing along with. You'll never find exactly all of the ones you like on 2 disks, but this one comes close.
