There is a remarkable blend of Arts and Technology which is molding the career of recent artists and musicians of the 21st century. Anuradha Sharma has composed an album titled Acroiris (www.acroiris.com) of purely instrumental computer music. As an exact sciences student her approach to understanding music was a bit different from her fellow Music major colleagues. I SEE MELODIES AS PATTERNSSharma: âI understand music as patterns; therefore the multi-track placement of various instruments in a synthesizer is seen as the placement of diverse patterns in an aesthetical arrangement.I also like to think of a melody as the plot of an equation. An equation being a formula which dictates the behavior of the curve, yet by plugging different values into its variables and parameters we can manipulate the path of its curve.I compare the concept of equation to the key I play in. Musically speaking, the key I play in dictates the characteristics of the sound produced, still one can produce a variety of melodies to create different compositions.âHaving being brought up in a cosmopolitan environment, influenced her music in a positive way.Sharma: âI choose the rhythm sections to be representative of various cultures; I used South American rhythms for the composition âNative Skiesâ, Eastern sounds for âAmazonas Riverâ and techno for âWorld Travelâ.I feel that music should have one very important ingredient- the strangely familiar element. So the rhythm sections are popular percussion arrangements from around the world, which is familiar to many people, but what ties the compositions together into this album is the use of minimalism technique when composing the melodies. This is the novelty part.â A VERY APPLEALING SOLUTIONBy listening to the composerâs description of their work, one can appreciate the thought, talent and inspiration behind their music. The concept of âdynamic equilibriumâ as Sharma puts it, is not only present in the international approach to her electronic compositions but also in another very new and interesting manner. In her attempt to compose innovative music which is appropriate for a variety of occasions; to compose music which one lives with throughout the day as opposed to music only for relaxation purposes or only high-energy techno music for dance parties, she arrived at a very appealing solution.Sharma: âThe rhythm sections of my music is upbeat, has good tempo which energizes the listenerâs heart. The melodies, on the other hand, are soft and calming which includes a restful state of mind, thus the combined effect of listening to this music is surprisingly refreshing. This is what makes Acroiris unique in its category of music!âAcroiris is comprised of smooth melodies uplifted by lively percussion arrangements. It differentiates itself from other instrumental compositions because its melody appeases the mind while its rhythm energizes the heart. Acroiris presents the beauty and refinement of electronic music set in popular style, thus proving to be intrinsically appealing to a wide range of audiences. This music is uniquely tailored to relax while in motion. Its structured rhythms pay tribute to the ever present human heartbeat while its harmonious melodies give recognition to the constant flow of human emotions. On the whole, Acroiris plays the music within us.Sharmaâs music illustrates the compromise between the rationality and intuition, structural order and free fluidity, between science and art and thus between the heart and the brain. Composed simplistically, yet Acroiris houses the complexity of balance between such contrasting elements mentioned above. It may very well be the trigger which accelerates the development of a new genre of music within the field of electronic and computer music.Ashilopsia Productions Acroiris Music | Category | New Age Albums | | Label | CD Baby | | CD Universe Part number | 7386577 | | Catalog number | 119874 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Jan 30, 2007 |

Additional personnel includes: Lamont Depew (vocals); Colin Linden (electric & slide guitars); Jimmy Eppard (guitar); Robbie Dupre (harmonica); Garth Hudson (soprano saxophone, organ); Crispin Cioe (saxophone); Larry Etkin (trumpet); David Sancious (keyboards, synthesizer, programming); Stan Szelest (piano); Tony Levin, Rob Leon, Harvey Brooks, Roger Mason (bass).
Sessioncat, Johnny Paycheck sideman, and recent inductee into the Band, Jim Weider, his Honky Tonk Gurus, and a role call of top musicians (Tony Levin, David Sancious, Garth Hudson, et al.) take on Weider's roots rock guitar instrumentals and tunes as disparate as Jimi Hendrix's "Little Miss Lover," Chuck Berry's "Deep Feeling," Bobby Womack's "I'm in Love," and the Jimmy Cliff standard "Many Rivers to Cross." With Weider's unquestionable ability to give rock, blues, and R&B the full guitar-athon treatment, the results should find him fans among contemporary blues freaks and jam-band followers. ~ Denise Sullivan

The first time I heard Rich Smith perform live in Los Angeles, I wondered how it was possible to evoke such passion with a keyboard. After two years of listening, I still don't understand how he does it. Needless to say, Rich Smith is an extraordinarily gifted artist who is easily one of the most important talents to appear in this century. This album is a wonderful celebration of life. It's delicious textures are filled with impassioned images that float effortlessly through the mind. If you truly love someone, this music will harmonize the soul of music in your hearts and minds. Give it to someone you really care about.'~ John Pash, Los Angeles, CA'If you love piano and nature, you would love this one... I bought "The Giant Forest" from Rich after I heard his performance. I liked it so much that I bought another one and presented it as a gift to my dearest friend. Listening to the great pieces, I can close my eyes and almost see the forest stretching right in front me. The great inspiration from the soaring hawk, the tenderness and peace from the little chipmunk, are only examples how Rich's music can really touch one's heart. I love it and I strongly recommend it to anyone who has a heart for great piano and for great nature...'~ Sharon Ling, Clarksville, MD'WOW --- I want more. I first heard Rich in a street musician concert in the Santa Monica area. I was completely taken by his improv that I stood and listened for over an hour. I bought his CD when he was done, thinking this will probably be OK. --- Boy was I surprised. ...

Acroiris
$11.49 As an acupuncturist, I often listen to the same CD for hours and hours. I was always looking for music that would be both interesting to me and soothing for my patients. I've played alot different styles of beautiful music in my treatment room: Tim Story, Liquid Mind, Chakra Music, Miles Davis, Sun Ra and Eno. Finally, I decided to create this one hour CD. It's funny that after decades of playing rock and jazz and making little soundtracks my first CD is this New Age number. The tracks are named after the 14 main acupuncture channels but in truth this was just so I could identify the different songs while creating them. I don't claim that the tracks have mystical qualities or follow the standard Chinese tonal systems. No, I just wanted to make a nice and relaxing record. MAKING THE CDAcupuncture puts me in Theta like state between sleep and dreaming so I found it very interesting to find the right overall tone for the CD. Some patients are virtually asleep during a treatment while others have their eyes wide open wondering about what they are going to cook for dinner. Melodies have to be just a little interesting but nothing too jarring. I needed to re-mix this several times because the worst thing that can happen is to have a loud passage wake a patient up. A lot of New Age music will be very quiet for a long time but then the composer feels the need to make a dramatic statement. I really tried to avoid that. I thank Spike Marlin for helping me with technical issues and mixing advice.
