Soundtrack English; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re Prog-rockers Yes return to the stage in this 2003 performance at the Montreux Festival. Though decades may have passed since the group's heyday in the 1970s, Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire, and Alan White have lost none of their edge. Laying into deep cuts like "Siberian Khatru," "Long Distance Runaround," and "I've Seen All Good People," this group of grizzled legends delivers a smoldering rock performance. The 2002-2003 tours that celebrated the Return of Rick Wakeman were probably the best shows Yes have done since the “Union” days. And maybe better. This DVD captures the band working hard, we catch them at their most focused. They are not thinking about making a DVD but in getting the audience to become one with the music and performance. When it’s all over you realize that they didn’t do one Trevor Rabin song. That’s right they Don’t Do Owner of a lonely Heart! Thank the heavens! Great news for those of us who know that that song is not necessary for them to be a success.
Chris Squire’s Fish solo is pure bass shredding ! Prepare to have your face melted by the fish! Jon also seems very energized since his guitar stopped working, and we even hear Jon drop the “F” bomb because of it, and right before “In the Presence of “ I almost fell out of my seat laughing. And yet all is well. Here’s looking forward to Yes and the 40th anniversary.

Nicely Played, Excellent Video Quality, But .. Okay - I endured the wasted time of Jon Anderson's drippy solo-type songs [Save the Whale - how trite, and only 40 years late jumping on THAT bandwagon, lol]. I admired Steve Howe's wonderful fretwork - for an old apparently nearsighted geezer, he can still get it done marvelously. Watching twerpy Anderson, I was struck by how little he has to do instrumentally, and by the obvious fact that he has NO sense of rhythm as he often dance-swayed OUT OF TIME with the beat, lol! And it was also amusing to see Chris Squire, now a bloated pub-crawler type if ever there was one, get his big solo moment on The Fish - good for him. Wakeman's playing has never been better. Alan White - may as well have been invisible. And then came Roundabout, my Yes fave and the tune that hooked me in 1972. And it's ... [ital:] the abbreviated SINGLE version - minus the entire middle part!! Man, was I disappointed and p.o.-ed. Look, 'tour-tired' or not, if they're gonna make me sit thru the Hobbit's self-indulgent drivel, the least they could have done was deliver full versions of ALL of their best older stuff. Sheesh. Guess who strikes again. Submitted by Nate (Boston, MA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Pure Yes Music That`s a great show of pure Yes Music, the Steve Howe arrangement for "To Be Over" is wonderful, Rick Wakeman made a great Pipe Organ solo and the "Heart Of Sunrise" is amazing. And the always beautiful voice of Jon Anderson with the vocals and bass of Chris Squire and the unique Alan White beat. Submitted by João Miguel (Portugal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Yes - Live At Montreux 2003 DVD Yes are one of the most innovative and successful rock bands of all time, with a career that now spans five decades. In 2003, the band made their first appearance at the Montreux Festival, despite having a long association with the town itself (they recorded there frequently in the '70s). It was a triumphant night and is regarded by both the band members and fans as probably the finest Yes gig ever to be filmed. It has been much in demand and is now finally cleared for release.

$6.19 It was widely assumed that when vocalist/songwriter Jon Anderson left Yes at the end of the '70s, the band was doomed. Most folks forgot that bassist/composer Chris Squire was the other founding member of the band, and he had as much to do with their sound as Anderson. It was surprising enough when the band decided to continue with a new vocalist and keyboardist. It was even more surprising when the new members turned out to be Trevor Horn (later a famed pop producer) and Geoff Downes (who would soon depart with Steve Howe for Asia). And it was downright shocking when the resultant album DRAMA turned out to be a great one.
While Horn's voice is in the same general range as Anderson's, he tends to blend more with the vocals of Howe and Squire for a distinctive three-part harmony sound. Similarly, the individual instrumental statements of Howe and Downes avoid grandstanding in favor of the group dynamic. Consequently, DRAMA is one of Yes' most direct, concise offerings, full of relatively short songs that still maintain all the Yes hallmarks. Anderson diehards should leave their inhibitions ...
