| | En Vogue Born To Sing CD (1990)
Taipai
$7.69 When hip-hop/R&B quartet En Vogue appeared on the scene in 1990 with BORN TO SING, it was clear that they were a force to be reckoned with. Carefully assembled by producers Thomas McElroy and Denzil Foster, En Vogue blended girl-group sass with soul, funk, pop smarts, and a sophisticated sense of style and edge. The harmonies of the three vocalists gave a cool, glossy edge to all their material, and that key element--along with the other hallmarks of their style--is clearly apparent ...
| | Very Best Of Dionne Warwick CD (2000)
Taipai
$7.95 Recorded between 1962 & 1974. Includes liner notes by Alec Cumming.
At less than ten bucks, these 16 prime-time tracks from stately, elegant Dionne Warwick -- who unfortunately spent more time with the Psychic Friends Network than she did in the recording studio recently -- are a bargain. A virtual Hal David/Burt Bacharach songbook, only two tracks were not written by the hall of fame composers: "Then Came You," composed by Thom Bell/Sherman Marshall, and the Previns' "Theme From Valley of the Dolls." Every tune you expect to be on a Dionne Warwick best-of set is here, from the all-time favorite "Don't Make Me Over" to "Do You Know the Way to San Jose," which could be done without. Not a complete overview by any means but a good tight compilation of her major chart slayers. ~ Andrew Hamilton
This is the fourth compilation of Dionne Warwick's work done by Rhino Records, and the company's third collection of her major hits ...

| | Sebastian Sidi Electrified CD (2001)
Taipai
$17.69 SEBASTIAN SIDIBiographyThe music of Sebastian Sidi defies definition. Simply put, it cannot be confined within the walls of a single genre. Words alone fail to illustrate its ingenious fusion of Classical, Rock, Latin and New Age sounds. And that's precisely the way this talented, innovative artist prefers it. “In a way, I like the fact that you cannot describe my music,” Sebastian contends. “I've never really followed any guidelines to composing my music.” That makes sense, seeing as how Uruguay-born Sebastian also never formally studied music. As a teen, several years after his family relocated to Southern California, he sat behind a buddy's battered drum kit and pounded out his first fledgling, heavy metal tunes. Before long he was hitting the skins, along with the keyboards, and composing songs for a number of small rock bands, as well as rap and Latin outfits.“As I continued to do that, my compositions became more and more intricate,” he recalls. “I found out that I had a pretty good understanding of what each instrument had to bring to the table to make a song work.” Sebastian soon added bass guitar to his repertoire, which he instinctively took to “as if I had played it for years.” What developed is the distinctive Sebastian Sidi sound that has been featured on the four compact discs he's released through his Sidi Music Records label: 1999's raw, uplifting “Prelude”; 2000's intricate “Electrified”; 2002's relaxed “Passion”; and the 2005 offering “Desperate Journey,” which documents his personal inner struggles. Collectively, the discs have sold over 150,000 copies with out the help of a Record or Distribution Company. When he's not recording Sebastian, who is fluent in both English and Spanish, can be seen performing live on stages throughout Southern California including at Universal City Walk, Downtown Disney among many other well respected venues. It is, however, the theatre shows he produces and presents to his loyal fans, that Sebastian counts among his greatest musical achievements. “It is where I've had the opportunity to produce my dream concerts, with props, lights, cameras, a full band, dancers, singers, a big screen and a full theatre. Most importantly, that's where all of my fans from different places can come together for a night of music.”That loyal fan base ...
| | Symphorce Become Death CD (2007)
Taipai
$10.69 Most of the European bands with a power metal/prog metal orientation have focused on power metal and prog metal exclusively. They are bands that, although formed in the '90s or 2000s, are hell-bent for the '70s and '80s and faithfully re-create the metal of the past. But Become Death points to the fact that Germany's Symphorce are a different type of metal band; this is a band that, unlike so many of their peers, is largely retro without being exclusively retro. Become Death has many of the influences that are so common among European power metal revival bands, including Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Queensr˙che -- and certainly, prog metal favorites Dream Theater are an influence as well. But influences from outside power metal and prog metal often find their way to this late 2006 recording, including thrash metal on "Darkness Fills the Sky" and "Ancient Prophecies," alt metal on "Death Has Come" and "No Final Words to Say" and gothic metal on "Inside the Cast." This 48-minute CD is full of shiny, high-tuned ...
