As befitting a child of a mountain preacher, Ralph Stanley has a long tradition of answering every secular record he makes with a gospel one, insuring that he never strays far from the flock. MOUNTAIN PREACHER'S CHILD collects gospel tracks that Stanley recorded from the mid '70s to the mid '80s, all available on CD for the first time.
Listeners expecting a more ruminative and somber approach like that of his 2002 secular record, RALPH STANLEY, which featured only Stanley's legendarily forlorn voice over banjo, will be surprised. MOUNTAIN PREACHER'S CHILD is rollicking social music that has the energy and drive of a secular dance party. Most of the tracks are group romps that feature the fiddle of Curley Ray Cline, Junior Blankenship's frenetic mandolin picking, and some great old-time group harmony. The material speaks for itself: "The Keys To The Kingdom," "Troublesome Waters," "Oak Grove Church," and "Go Down Moses" are clearly spirituals at the core, but faith music has never sounded quite so loose and fun.

| | Ry Cooder Borderline CD (1980)
Mountain Preacher's Child CD music
$10.89 With 1980's Borderline, Ry Cooder followed the foray into R&B and soul of his previous effort, Bop Till You Drop, but this time out with a little shot of the Southwest thrown in. At the same time, he also continues the primarily electric sound of that record. As far as his selection of material goes, Borderline may sometimes lack the surprising, esoteric charm of his earlier recordings, but there are still some terrific finds, ...

Mountain Preacher's Child music CDs
$9.09 Husband-and-wife duo Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett were among the foremost proponents of blue-eyed soul in the 1960s and '70s. They're famous for luring Eric Clapton into their midst and influencing the direction of his solo work, but their own legacy stands up well beyond that. BEST OF DELANEY & BONNIE culls the best tracks from the pair's key releases, ...

Mountain Preacher's Child songs
$7.79 This Gold Disc includes one track, "Candle In The Wind," that isn't on the standard CD release.
After Elton released 9 records in a four year span and undertook massive tours as well, GREATEST HITS was the second album he put out in 1974. The unprecedented success John had with lyricist Bernie Taupin resulted in a compilation of ten songs of which nine easily landed in Billboard's Top 20 at one point. John's enormous talents enabled him to shift gears from tender balladry ("Your Song") to raucous rock'n'roll ("Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting"), ...
| | Led Zeppelin Song Remains The Same CDs (1976) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Deluxe Edition
Mountain Preacher's Child album
$16.35 Back in the seventies, it seemed that every rock band needed to have a live concert film to commemorate their triumphant treks across America. Led Zeppelin were no exception and THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME is a chronicle of Led Zeppelin on tour. Although the uninspired visual aspects of the film fail to capture the power of Led Zeppelin at their mid-seventies peak, the album manages to convey their live prowess. The twenty-six minute, hypnotic version of "Dazed and Confused" works much better here than in the film, where movie patrons would head to the concession stand ten minutes into the song. ...

Mountain Preacher's Child CD music
$8.59 At $10 for three songs, this isn't a cheap CD. BUT - it's designed to be used as a quality greetings card promoting organ donation in general, and living kidney donation in particular - huge discount for buying more than one - it was conceived and recorded with LOVE - AND all proceeds from the sale of this CD go to the great young UK charity Live Life Then Give Life. Oh, and did I mention that it's great music, performed by great musicians.THE STORYAndy Williamson (sax) and Maff Potts (organ) have been playing together on the UK jazz scene for many years, with legendary cult band "The Honkin' Hep Cats" and the Big Buzzard Boogie Band. In 2006 Andy developed end stage renal failure, because of ADPKD, a genetic condition he'd inherited from his mother. Andy started kidney dialysis in March 2006. In August 2007, Andy received one of Maff's kidneys in a living donor kidney transplant at Guy's Hospital in London. In the three weeks after their operations, the pair wrote these songs together, partly to raise money towards the work of 'Live Life Then Give Life', a great young UK charity which promotes organ donation; and partly to try to encourage more people to think about becoming living kidney donors. While being a living donor sounds like a very scary thing to do, in fact it's no more dangerous for the donor than any other operation under general anaesthetic. During the long process of being accepted as a living donor in the UK, doctors carry out tests so that they are as sure as they can be that the operation will have no long term effects on the donor. This is partly why statistically, living kidney donors actually have a longer than average life expectancy.THE MUSICAll this sounds tremendously worthy! The fact is that this EP is not only a 'good thing', in its charity (all proceeds go to Live Life Then Give Life' and in its campaigning message; it's also simply great music, played by a bunch of musicians with a unique rapport after playing together for nearly 20 years.'Live Life Then Give Life' was recorded on 29 August 2007, only three weeks after Andy and Maff were both on the operating table. It's a powerfully funky song, featuring stunning solos on tenor sax from Andy, organ from Maff and ends with an amazing improvised guitar duet between established star Denny Ilett and 18-year-old Cam Potts, making his debut in the ...
